The only people allowed to give a homily at a Catholic mass are either a priest or a deacon. Since she would be neither of those, I would be pretty pissed at this church breaking the rules.

WTF? So no guest speakers? No letting the musicians preach on some weeks?

Their whole business model is based on convincing the ignorant that they cant have a spiritual relationship with God inless they give some Roman king money. Obviously they wouldn't let anyone preach who isnt completely dependent upon them. They literally dismiss like 2/3rds of the world population from their priesthood before they so much as ask what their beliefs are.

No to your second question, but I can remember non-ordained guest speakers every now and then growing up.

I don't like her but I'd try to talk to her after the service. I'd do the same with any famous person.
