Whether Haley has a future as the GOP nominee depends on whether Trump succeeds at fundamentally changing the Republican Party.

The same people who voted for Rubio and Cruz in 2016 would support Haley in 2020/24.  Yet this constitutes a minority of GOP primary voters.  Most GOP primary voters chose Trump over younger, more interesting conservative candidates last time around.

It's possible that there's a silent majority of Republicans that are quite Trumpy, and/or that Trump is converting voters who didn't used to vote Republican to come into the party and start voting in GOP primaries.  Either way, Trump may have a lasting effect on where the Republican Party goes ideologically, and that also influences what types of candidates the party chooses down the line.

That describes some Cruz voters from Conservatism Inc, but not all, it should be noted that the bulk of Cruz voters were also Religious Conservatives that were frustrated with Romney due to his Mormonism (many of them supported Gingrich/Santorum). Haley would have similar issues with that crowd considering that she has attended both Sikh and Christian services even following her supposed conversion.

It's pretty crazy how Nikki has grown some sort of halo over the years, I remember her barely scraping by in 2010 because of massive baggage she was carrying.

She barely scraped by in 2010 because she was an Indian female named Nimrata Randhawa running in a Deep South state.

Anyway, this thread is absurd for many reasons, most of which have already been pointed out.

No one is putting a "halo" over her.  For as much as Atlas "overhypes" certain people, there is a far more prevalent practice of anyone who is heralded as a good candidate is immediately hated by everyone for being "so overrated" when they were never really rated that highly in the first place - simply discussed, for good reason.

Yeah and she would be a threat if she was the nominee, but I feel pretty confident that the gop won’t nominate a brown woman so we are probably safe lmao.

Ffs, the GOP is not going to nominate a woman (and a member of a racial minority no less) for president. This thread is completely ridiculous.

The truth is obviously somewhere in between.  I was more mocking how simplistic your post was and how shallow and dumb it made you come across.  Par for the course.

There are better reasons for the Democrats to nominate a woman. Anyway, Nikki Haley is not going to be the nominee in 2024. I feel fairly secure in saying that. She will flame out spectacularly and is already pretty irrelevant now that she resigned as UN ambassador. Being associated with the Trump administration won't be enough for the post-Trump GOP. She isn't a "rising star" in the party anymore. Republican primary voters in the GOP nomination for President rejected all of their "rising stars" in 2016, so I don't see why that also wouldn't be the case in 2024. Haley will be a female Rubio.

I doubt Democrats should make any decisions based on Haley's prospects in 2024.

While she'll be a strong contender for the nomination, there will be significant opposition from Vice President Pence, as well as sitting Governors and Senators.

Should Democrats win in 2020, their chances will depend heavily on the political environment and the popularity of the incumbent President.

I started this post somewhat serious/ somewhat not ... although it is something that did pop into my head (that Haley may be someone hard for Dems to beat if she gets the nomination in 2024- esp if she picked Rubio as her running mate... which is who she will pick if she gets the nomination).

But regarding being irrelevant... although we will have to see- I think she will be appointed Senator before the year is over (to fill Graham's seat)....I strongly think that Graham will be appointed Attorney General ... (or although much less likely, even SOS if Pompeo got moved to Atty Gen).

Many say "Graham has no interest in giving up the Senate just for a 2 year stint as Atty Gen" ...but he wouldn't be giving up the Senate if behind the scenes conversations/ agreements have taken place.  B/c the Senate appointment would be for 2 years ... at which time (2020) Haley would not run for re-election b/c everyone knows she will be announcing a Presidential bid in 2022.  Therefore, Graham would just slip right back into his Senate seat (which he would easily win in SC...as Trumps new best friend).

If this did play out- which may be a stretch- but the timeline for Haley & Graham fits if they wanted to... Then Graham would get a free hiatus to be Atty General... and Haley strengthen up here resume for a Pres bid (Governor, Senator, UN Ambassador ... pretty strong resume).
