I'm not a huge fan of Baseball, but I love a good international tournament. Can't complain after watching today's upset Smiley

GO CANADA!

That was pretty surprising, a single A pitcher beating a lineup of MLB Allstars.  I was also dissapointed to see Cuba sneak past Panama, that would have been a nice upset.

I'm telling you, if Canada had our best relief pitchers, we'd be unstoppable. It's our only weakness so far.

I wouldn't consider losing 10-0 to Italy "well".

But of course the Aussies are playing, they won a silver in Athens. Biggest BS ever. It's your fault we didn't medal.

Yeah, because the US didn't qualify?  Come on.

Actually, the way qualification works could be better, but I wouldn't say it was a joke. It's a real shame they took it out.

I didn't say we were competing well. Re-read it.

No.

Take a look at the US roster in 2000 and the US roster for the WBC. Notice anything? Most guys in 2000 were career minor leaguers or A prospects. Now, this doesn't matter for crappy teams like Australia, Cuba, or the Europeans, but it definitely matters for the DR, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Japan, Korea, and the US. The simple fact that the three main baseball leagues (NPB, MLB, and KBO) don't have breaks for the Olympics are what makes them jokes and is a main reason Cuba has done so well in them in the past.

Canada just got trounced by Mexico 9-1 and will be eliminated from the tournament if the U.S. can beat South Africa tomorrow. Mexico has already advanced from the group.

Illustrating again that Canada's win was a flash in the pan when compared the the near loss to South Africa and the blowout loss to Mexico.
