Though this isn't only about Rumsfield, he is the most notable  figure in the news at this time.  Some critisize that Bush places too much emphasis on personal loyalty, even when it is to the nation's detriment.  Do  you believe this is true or not, and do you think that doing so is a good thing or not?

Of course he does. Youre asking Bush: "lead a nation right, or get lots of money." A real toughie for George. Tongue

Yes, but not 'personal loyalty' in the sense of anything 'honorable' or individual.  His loyalty is to his class, and particularly to the more politically active and powerful segments of it which got him elected, such as the military/industrial complex and the pharmacutical industry.

Hence, it would be better to say that Bush puts the interests of the powerful - his class - above those of the 'nation' as a whole.  In fact it would be fair to say that his every activity is designed to be detrimental to the interests of the majority (working class).

Granted different situations and different issues, but what the administartion is going through right now seems to be the exact same thing that the now deader than dead Long Island GOP went through.

No - if indeed he does place personal loyalty as high as everyone thinks he does I bet you it's because he thinks the people who are loyal to him or to whom he is loyal will do the best job for the nation. I think it's rare that people are not concerned and just stand by cronies because they are cronies. The people he put around him had excellent reputations - and one could argue that those people are tainted now, but I'm sure Bush doesn't see it that way.

I'm sure he does to an extent - all politicians do. It's usually a bad thing.
