Let’s say Kasich won the nomination in 2016 and he beat Clinton in the general election. How would he have done in 2020? Would he have beaten Joe Biden even with the Covid pandemic?

Most likely, but I doubt Biden would've run.

Yup.

Biden wouldn't have entered the race without Trump. Not even if Trump was a fairly normal prez. He said that Charlottesville prompted him to run.

He would likely had won over the eventual candidate, altrought I can see economic progresivism becoming more popular by 2020.

If it wasn’t Charlottesville it would have been another major event like the mass shootings. Biden absolutely would have ran in 2020 regardless of who the Republican president was. The only scenario where Biden would not have ran in 2020 would have been if a democrat was the incumbent.

Was there a mass shooter in 2017 that John Kasich would have said had a point? 'Cause Beautiful Joe Biden only ran because Trump said "many fine people on both sides", and that would be the equivalent in this hypothetical. I get that your obsession with Brandon is rooted in an attempt to create a false equivalency between him and Convicted Felon Donald Trump, but if you're going to be stupid, at least pay attention to the facts of Crooked Joe. Come on, I thought facts didn't care about your feelings.

Nope. 2016 would have been a poisoned chalice for any establishmentarian Republican who somehow, impossibly, took the Blue Wall last time given that they wouldn't have catered to the unique anti-lockdown reaction that was bound to happen in US politics. The social movements of the day (BLM, #MeToo, March for Our Lives, Climate Strike, COVID era rent freeze, probably an anti-war movement since Kasich probably would have started something somewhere), on the other hand, would absolutely continue flourishing and vote against him. That's the thing- the old Gipper's Stool Republicans appeal to no one anymore, hence why they kept losing and why Trump was able to take over the party to begin with. Trump may even run third-party here.

While I'm at it, even though I should know better than to respond to a Medal506 threaf, Biden wouldn't have run without the desire for a return to pre-Trump political norms. The candidate would have been some lab-manufactured feel-good "Hope and Change" establishment hack designed to stop the progressives while still successfully browbeating support out of them like Harris or Buttigieg.
