In 04 Kerry was accused of being a flip flopper, Romney is now being accused of being a flip flopper.  Who do you think is a bigger flip flopper?

The results will be most likely completely partisan - Democrats will say Romney and Republicans Kerry.

Actually an even bigger flip flopper than either of these is George W Bush.

Kerry's "flip-flops" were minor, at worst.  Romney is practically entirely the opposite ideology that he was circa 1994.

Romney--in my mind.  B/c he's flipped w/ social issues which are more important to me--and honestly--@ this point, Kerry is not really important anymore.

Kerry flip-flopped quite a bit, except in the last leg of his campaign.  I haven't had the misfortune of hearing what comes out of Romney's mouth Smiley

Well, in 1994, he promised to be more in favor of gay rights than Ted Kennedy.  Now his exploratory committee website has a quote by him featured in the main banner in which he laments the downfall of the American family.

This is just one of many things on which he's, er, amended his views.  He seems to basically just change his views as necessary to fit the mold of whatever office he's running for, rather than deciding on his views and then choosing an office to run for.

Tough call. Kerry flip-flopped numerous times on the central issue of the campaign, where as Romney has decided to change ideologies before it gets started. I guess I will say Romney, if only because he has flopped on numerous issues.

Romney's got full back somersaults on social issues down to a fine art. Kerry's flip-flop on Iraq pales in comparison

Conservatives should be asking themselves whether or not Romney is being sincere with them

Between those two, Romney is the biggger flip-flopper hands down.

But John McCain beats them both in the flip-flop department.

Romney, easily. Kerry's positions may have been inconsistent, confusing, and unclear, but Kerry did not do a complete 180-degree turn like Romney did.

What is it with Massachusetts and flip floppers? Oh well, at least we can all count on Ted Kennedy.

Romney has not just changed his mind on issues.  He has based his entire campaign on his positions on social issues that he did not hold until the campaign began.  This is flip-flopping of the shark jumping variety.

The more I know about Mitt, the less I like him (which puts me in line with his constituents, it appears).

A number of cogent insights have been expressed so far.

First, Wakie, the Bush flip flop is not so much to say one thing today and then the totally opposite tomorrow, but rather to consistently say one thing and then do something entirely to the contrary.  This goes beyond flip flopping.

Second, Deano963, with McVain you must remember that down deep he's shallow.  The reason he can (and has) reversed course so many times on so many fundamental issues is that he really doesn't have any real views on matters of public policy other than his own engrandizement.

Third, it is clear that the policy positions advocated today by Romney are vastly different from those he advocated in the nineties.  Has he changed his views (I doubt it) or is he merely trying to defraud the Republican primary voters (I tend to believe this).  I think that when you take a close look at Romney you will see that he has no real positions on matters of public policy, and just says what he feels he needs to say advance his career at the moment.

Fourth, while Kerry on occassion tried to pretend he was something he was not, his posturing was so ludicrous that I doubt anyone believed any of it.  However, he came up with some real hilarious whoppers (my favorite was his 'Christmas in Cambodia' story).

I refuse to adopt Fox News lingo like "flip-flopping" (is that being "politically correct"? Who knows. Or cares), but I will state that Romney is the least ideologically consistent of the two.

But of course we all know that John McCain is the biggest flip-flopper of them all. Oops. I just said it. Or wrote it. Whatever.

Neither. As neither of them cared much about the issues they 'flipped-flopped' over in the first place.

Kerry is a flip-flopper b/c he's views change with the wind, Romney is a panderer as his views are changing now that he has a different audience, but they don't change weekly.  Therefore, Kerry is the only flip-flopper and by default bigger one
