Here's a piece of advice:

Stay far away from NJ, I like you, it's not personal in that way, but the state sucks

Why do I get the feeling this has to do with the fact that Tom Kean Jr. took an ass kicking in 2006?

It has more to do with the tax hikes, civil unions, overpollution, corruption, urban areas spreading into suburbs creating higher crime, and just the fact that the state has no one admirable anymore in politics aside from Steve Lonegan

Alva is about 4 hours from the New Mexico State Line, and in those four hours you come across maybe 10 trees and only two cities of meaningful size, Alva with 5,000 and Guymon with 15,000.  Even Boise City, the largest city in Cimarron County has 1,700 people.  Its sad, it is the largest land area county in the state and the smallest population county in the state.

There was discussion in another thread about what kind of place Cimarron County, OK could be. They were the only county in Oklahoma to give Brad Henry's opponent (whoever he was) a noticable margin of victory last year. What else do you know about Cimarron?

They voted for Carter yet not LBJ, and now they're 87% for Bush. The Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles were the most heavily Republican place in the 2004 election. (Ochiltree, TX was highest % GOP vote in the nation)

Freylinghausen seems okay. Whats wrong with him?

Ocean County sucks by the way. Way too many lifeguards, they ruined my time on the beach. And too many old geezers, its like Florida of the north there.

The Oklahoma Panhandle and the western border counties with Texas are heavily Republican.  In fact, most of Western Oklahoma is.  I don't know much more about Cimarron County except that there is one town in the extreme western part of the county along the New Mexico state line (Kenton) that is in the Mountain Time Zone.  Black Mesa is Oklahoma's highest point at 5,000 ft roughly and is actually in the Mountain Time Zone while the rest of the state is in the Central Time Zone.  Cimarron County as most know is the only county to border states that are not shared by the main body, that being New Mexico to the west and Colorado to the north.  Everybody in the panhandles who wants to remain in the panhandles are gravitating toward Guymon, Oklahoma, Amarillo and Lubbock in Texas, or Liberal, Kansas (right on the Oklahoma border NE of Guymon), the bigger cities around the region.

Woods County, Woodward County, and Texas County, and to some extent Major County, are the only counties in the Northwestern corner of the state with any decent population.  Texas County is the home to the 15,000 Guymon and has about 20,000.  Woodward County is the home to the 11,000 Woodward and has 15,000 in the county, Woods County is the home to the 5,000 Alva and has 9,000 in the county, and Major County is home to the 2,600 Fairview and has about 5,000-6,000 in the county.  Garfield County and Enid are, IMO, North-Central Oklahoma.  The other counties is the northwestern corner of the state, Alfalfa, Harper, Ellis, Beaver, and Cimarron all have 4,000 people or less in the entire county, with the average around 3,000-3,250.

Not according to my atlas. Unless it was changed recently.

The map doesn't show it accurately.  Kenton, Oklahoma and Black Mesa, Oklahoma are technically in the Mountain Time Zone.  Its so close to the Time Zone border that the maps show it in the Central, but its actually in the Mountain.

How about Arkansas?  You'd fit in well with us in many ways.

See... one of the problems this country is having today is people intentionally moving to places that act as political echo chambers for their views.

what?!  That's strange.  I have NEVER met anyone who has moved from one US state to another for political reasons.

Of course, I can say this because I've never met Hillary Clinton.

St Louis does suck, but Columbia and Kansas City are really nice, and southern missouri is beautiful.. north mo.. is not pretty lol

I have nothing against Missouri politically, other than it has unusually stringent policing of street prostitution, even for the US.

And yes, those rural areas are pretty for about 10 minutes, but they are utterly boring and there is nothing whatsoever there.  Just Walmarts, cows, fat people, etc.  At least St. Louis and Columbia have a few porn shops and prostitutes, as well as university/community radio and college Film Series.

Record stores, cool bars and big indie scene. And those things (plus being liberal politically) are the ONLY things I care about in a city.

I'm getting more and more calls as time goes along and I've got an intriguing opportunity that may blossom before the end of March.  I may be ending up in Parsippany, New Jersey (far western New York City) for 13 weeks starting April 30.  Then, sometime in early August, I would be coming back to the midwest, hopefully.  I'll let you know the results of this opportunity.

As of right now, the latest is I will be going back to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Working and living on the same street, just 18 miles apart.  I'd be working at an IT Help Desk/Call Center, so I would have to call up my knowledge of the Microsoft Windows environment.

I'd be living in Choctaw and working in Oklahoma City along NE and NW 23rd Streets for some pretty good pay, too.
