Richard Moore, a two-term North Carolina state treasurer and former secretary of crime control, "officially announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for governor Tuesday," reports the News and Observer.

Moore "already has raised $2.6 million for his campaign coffers." He is "expected to face Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue in the Democratic primary."

I wish one of these two would avoid a divisive Democratic Primary for Governor and run for the Senate instead, but that obviously is very unlikely.  Democrats have held the Governor's Mansion since 1992, but are stronger statewide than Republicans and seem to have a good chance to retain it going into 2008.

If Moore doesn't drop out, I hope LG Bev Perdue kick's Moore's butt.  From what I've read, she sounds like she'll be a great governor!

Good. That's one less possible challenger to Dole (though she is an idiot and I wish she'd get a primary challenge).

No one wants to challenge Dole because they're all waiting to take on Burr. And by precedent, he should lose.

Why do you think that Burr will lose?

Because no party has held onto that seat for more than a term since 1974. And his approvals are rather weak.

moore will be  a strong candidate.  but i know the democrats are scared to death of what will probably become a bloody primary fight between moore and perdue.

if im not mistaken, moore ran for congress in 94 and got beat by david funderburke of all people.  wonder what he is doing now?
