What if the Trump campaign in 2016 focused on restoring the 2004 map and New Hampshire instead of putting much effort into the Rust Belt trio, would he have won these states regardless? Or would that have been a huge strategic mistake? I remember even some close political observers including on this forum didn't believe these three were on the table.

Hillary was often and rightfully blamed for taking them for granted, but what if Trump's team just looked at the 2008 and 2012 results and concluded these states aren't prime targets. Does he still win at least one or two of them? Assuming he runs on the exact same platform. I think he may have gotten New Hampshire and Nevada with somewhat more effort (states Bush won at least once).
