What's to discuss? The national Democratic Party was to the right of the Republicans in those days. Seymour opposed Reconstruction, supported gold and limited government, and endorsed a campaign that called Grant the "N***er candidate" and himself "The White Man's candidate". What is not right wing about any of that?

I voted no only because I don’t think Seymour had an actual ideology. He was a brazen opportunist and reflexively opposed whatever Lincoln did without thought. Whatever views he professed were just a reflection of the Party at the time.

The Federalist party, Whigs or Republican in the 19th century were the Secular party due to Segregation and then reverts to Conserv party after the turn of the 20th Century.

That's why we have the colors reversed on Atlas, Republican meant Yankee blue and Red meant Dixiecrat or Rebel. Now after fall of Communism Ds are the Secular party
