NO UNITY PROMISE: Congressmen Ron Paul (R-TX) and Tom Tancredo (R-CO) both said during Tuesday's GOP Presidential debate they were both unable to make pledges to support the eventual GOP nominee. Paul said he would not support the Republican nominee "unless they’re willing to end the war and bring our troops home ... I’m not going to support them if they continue down the path that has taken our party down the tubes. I mean, we’ve lost credibility because of all our spending, because we have violated the civil liberties of all the American people, and we have adopted the Democrats’ foreign policy." Said Tancredo: "I am absolutely tired and sick and tired of being forced to go to the polls and say I’m going to make this choice between the lesser of two evils. I really don’t intend to do that again. I am hoping, of course, that whoever we nominate will be the principled flag carrier for the Republican Party. But if that is not the case, no, then I will not support them." In related news, Tancredo said Monday he will quit the White House race if he doesn't finish at least third in Iowa or New Hampshire. Tancredo also said he'll announce his true re-election plans on the day after whenever the current baseball season ends for the Colorado Rockies. The Paul and Tancredo comments -- probably intentionally -- kicked the doors wide open to Paul seeking the Libertarian nomination and Tancredo seeking the Constitution nomination for President in the general election.

Paul, Tancredo Drop Hints for Third Party Runs
Posted by Joey Dauben --- October 10th, 2007
Politics1.com is suggesting potential third party runs for congressmen Tom Tancredo and Ron Paul, based off of last night’s GOP presidential debate answers about the topic of supporting the eventual nominee.

NO UNITY PROMISE: Congressmen Ron Paul (R-TX) and Tom Tancredo (R-CO) both said during Tuesday’s GOP Presidential debate they were both unable to make pledges to support the eventual GOP nominee. Paul said he would not support the Republican nominee “unless they’re willing to end the war and bring our troops home … I’m not going to support them if they continue down the path that has taken our party down the tubes. I mean, we’ve lost credibility because of all our spending, because we have violated the civil liberties of all the American people, and we have adopted the Democrats’ foreign policy.”

Said Tancredo: “I am absolutely tired and sick and tired of being forced to go to the polls and say I’m going to make this choice between the lesser of two evils. I really don’t intend to do that again. I am hoping, of course, that whoever we nominate will be the principled flag carrier for the Republican Party. But if that is not the case, no, then I will not support them.” In related news, Tancredo said Monday he will quit the White House race if he doesn’t finish at least third in Iowa or New Hampshire. Tancredo also said he’ll announce his true re-election plans on the day after whenever the current baseball season ends for the Colorado Rockies. The Paul and Tancredo comments—probably intentionally—kicked the doors wide open to Paul seeking the Libertarian nomination and Tancredo seeking the Constitution nomination for President in the general election.

Speaking as an individual and not part of any one campaign, but if Mitt Romney is the nominee, which I’m banking he will be, I’ll be supporting the Mormon from Mass. If it’s anyone other than that, more than likely I’ll sit the 2008 presidential race out.

Congressman Paul running as, or even appearing to wage, a third party candidate will be absolutely disastrous to any credibility that this movement has launched in favor of taking back the controls of the Republican apparatus.

I say the more Republicans who run, the better. Split that vote as many ways as you possibly can.

In related news, Tancredo said Monday he will quit the White House race if he doesn’t finish at least third in Iowa or New Hampshire.

Speaking of which, Brownback has now said that he'll drop out of the race if he doesn't finish in the top four in Iowa:

I suspect we could lose half the field within a few days of the NH primary.  If neither McCain nor Huckabee does exceptionally well in IA or NH, you might end up with Brownback, Huckabee, Hunter, McCain, and Tancredo all dropping out before the third state has voted.

This is great news! I love that splitting, especially since Tancredo and Paul represent fringe elements of thier party, which may even lead to stronger third party pushes form both of these parts of the party.

I strongly suspect this will be between Rudy and Ron by the time the SC Primary is over.

I'm tempted to say "You left out the 'm', 'e', and 'y' in Romney."  Wink
