One problem with choosing a North Carolinan as his VP is the obvious image link between Obama's campaign and Kerry's failed one in 2004.  I think that might disqualify Easley, actually.

Edwards and Easley are way different, Edwards was not to popular in NC in 2004. But Easley is a very popular Gov. I am not saying if Easley is on the ticket NC is a soild win, but I do believe that if he were on the ticket Obama would get 2 to 3 percent more in NC then if he wasn't.  I believe that is why Clinton got above 40% in NC.

Dude, I wasn't talking as if North Carolinans would be confused/draw connections.  Obviously Easley would help Obama in the big NC.  I'm just imagining all of the editorial cartoons, the snide jokes, and drawing an image parallel to a loser in 2004.  Conservatives will be constantly saying things like "The most liberal senator in the senate with a dude from North Carolina again??!"

Out of those two options, Obama should select Governor Easley. Not only because, with Sebelius on the ticket, the Democrats won't win Kansas but so there would be some form of unity between Obama and Hillary. But we know, even if Obama decides to select a Hillary supporter as his running mate, there won't be any unity between Hillary and Obama.

However, like some of you have mentioned, I'd like Senator Joe Biden of Delaware on the ticket with Obama. Senator Biden would bring a variety of experience on the ticket which would counterbalance Obama's inexperience and his charisma. Biden, would be a better option for Obama, as it will not lead to the disastrous selection of yet another North Carolinian on the Democratic ticket.

Why do McCain and Lugar hate each other?

I am trying to get something more than just that on it.  A good friend of mine worked for Lugar here in Indiana for a long time...regional representative, I believe the title was.  At any rate, when I mentioned that McCain was one of my favorite Republicans, he said, "Don't let Senator Lugar hear you say that."  I pressed for more information but I could tell he wondered if he'd already said too much.  In all likelihood, the think with McCain is probably the same thing with Wes Clark or Congressman Joe Sestak.  They all have this reputation for blowing their stack and tearing people a new one.

I'm quite candidly not so sure that's always a bad thing.  Especially for a President.
