let's pretend that nixon opts to run for governor of new york when rocky enters the 68 presidential race.

rocky easily defeats the 'brainwashed' george romney to ein the gop nomination.

who wins the general??  ill start off by saying that wallace percentage goes up in the south (and border south) due to rocky's eastern liberalism.

hello, house of representatives!

Could Wallace have "traded" his electors to someone?

I've researched the 68' primaries and Rockefeller's break happened because Romney was handily defeated by Nixon in NH. Thus, Rockefeller would not have been able to enter until Romney was defeated. I think that Ronald Reagan would have had a visible campaign and would have defeated Romney in Oregon. Reagan would have defeated Rockefeller if he entered the race. But if this was the scenario it would be a battle of two progressives and a conservative. The race would probably be 39-34-25, with Humphrey winning. Wallace would probably win even more states than WalterMitty predicted, and the election would be sent to the house, where Humphrey would be able to win assuming riots didn't get too large.

I'm a proud NH Primary voter for 2008.
