the media seems obsessed with cheney's past heart problems.  why not the coverage of kerry's history of prostate cancer?

arent kerry and cheney about the same age?  one has a past history of heart problems, the other prostate cancer, yet we only hear about cheney.

reasoning?

I really haven't heard the media talk about Cheney's heart problems at all recently. Maybe I don't watch enough cable TV news.

I am no fan of the media but....

Prostate Cancer is one of medicines great success stories.

Men who have prostrate cancer which gets detected early don't get "cured" per se, but the growth of the tumor is so slow in essentially every case men die of something else before the prostrate cancer comes back.

I guess there was some oblique mention of Cheney's health with respect to the story about his doctor being a drug addict, but I really haven't heard his heart problems mentioned in years.

Kerry's prostate cancer was big news when he had the surgery, but since it was successful, I don't see why it needs to be brought up again.

Hmm ... maybe because over the last 4 years Cheney has had several heart attacks whereas Kerry only had 1 cancer surgery and has had no relapses.

Geesh the man has had a few heartattacks. Heartattacks are a common ailment for many Americans. Must we make Cheneys life miserable on every issue? We have had quite a few presidents who were ill during their terms. This in no way makes them unfit. I forgot the president but he had cancer and had a special surgery in secret for it. Reagan had various illnesses. If a person is sickly it does not mean they can't preform their job.

Three Notable Presidents who had rather severe illnesses of the last century: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.

The three of them arguably some of the best Presidents of the last century despite their illnesses.

Wakie,

You are just an absolute wizard with factual information. According to you, Cheney has had SEVERAL heart attacks over the last four years...that's as inaccurate as most of your recent statements. As a matter of FACT, Cheney has not had a heart attack since taking office as Vice-President...his last one was in 2000. Look it up...

Ok ... good point.  Thank you for the correction.  No thank you for the rude tone.

For the record, Cheney's heart attack history ...

#1 -- 1978
#2 -- 1984
#3 -- 1988 (had bypass surgery)
#4 -- November 22, 2000

March 5, 2001 : Cheney checks himself into George Washington University Hospital with chest pain and discomfort. The vice president undergoes an "urgent" procedure to re-open the blocked heart artery treated in November, returning home after an overnight stay.

June 30, 2001 : Doctors say Cheney's prognosis is "terrific" after he has surgery to implant a device to monitor his heart rhythm and slow it down if necessary.

You could add Eisenhower to that list.

Wakie,

Just out of curiousity, despite our political differences, I have seen you post some intelligent things at times. WHY then do you post incorrect information so frequently? It's happened several times in the past few months and I find it truly incredible that you wouldn't at least check your facts before posting stuff like that.

Mark, I openly admit that I've made mistakes.  The Cheney heart attack thing being one.  I honestly believed that the 3/5/01 Cheney chest pains were another heart attack.  My bad.  I honestly don't think the health of the VP is that big of an election issue.

I have seen many other people on here post information which later has turned out to be incorrect.  I don't think anyone does it intentionally, but being human we all make mistakes.

As long as Kerry isn't campaigning on his death bed I have no concerns about his previous health record. These guys have so much money they always get the best doctors and the best treatments. So I don't find myself concerned about his health all that much.

An honest answer. I guess I can live with that.
