I vote for Colorado Springs.

and for the record, SLC is not an accidental ommission, the city proper of SLC is actually quite liberal (most of the Mormons live in the suburbs or surrounding Provo/Ogden areas), and it's also not really a major city (Des Moines, Iowa is actually larger)

Did any of these cities go for Bush in 2000 inside the city limits?

I think they all did except Cincinatti and Birmingham because of the black populations.

VA Beach is not really "right wing" in the same way Tulsa is or whatever. Because, even though it's a city, it's really much, much more like a suburb (basically, it was a suburb of Norfolk, and now... is a suburb of itself?). Then add the large military population.

I don't understand the premise of the question anyway. Is "right wing" just the margin of support for the GOP vs. the DNC? Or the type of GOP voters? Because Richmond is probably more "right wing" in that regard than Va Beach.

I'm actually not sure but I wouldn't be suprised because even though it has a large Hispanic population Hispanic turnout in Texas is absolutely abysmal.

Why? Cincinnatti is actually the smallest city on the list.

Maybe if you are only counting the city proper.  But the Cincinatti metro area has over 2 million people.

I went Ohama.  Every county in Nebraska went for Bush.  Plus the South is populist-authoritarian, not as properly right-wing.  But that's just my Yankee bigotry.  The original right-wing in Revolutionary France was classical liberals, free marketeers and guys like Thomas Paine (the Girondin).

Even though Omaha is pretty Republican, it's not really that far right in the sense that a place like Colorado Springs or Tulsa is, it's more similar to a bigger version of Rochester, Minnesota. Kind of like its fellow Red River valley cities Sioux Falls and Fargo. So I guess it probably is the most right wing in a Libertarian sense making sense to be his pick.

I probably should've included Jacksonville. hmmmm.

Well I've been to Dallas and driven outside Virginia beach, skirted a few of the other cities, but never been to any of them besides Dallas.

I might have just picked Ohama because Nebraska is so overwhelmingly Republican and because I have a Western bias.

I went Cincinnatti.  Almost ANY white in that area is brutally GOP.

I voted Tulsa. At least Colorado Springs has some pockets of liberalism.

Va. Beach is Republican, but not extremely conservative.

Dallas and Cincinnati are much more moderate than their respective metro areas.

Not familiar with Birmingham or Omaha, though I think they're actually liberal for Alabama and Nebraska respectively.

And, yes, Jacksonville should have been on the list. (It's actually the 14th biggest city in the U.S.)

I think that's only because the city proper is expanded to take up almost all of Duval county though, so it includes lots of areas which are really suburban or even rural.

Yeah, I think it actually has the largest land area of any city in the continental U.S.

How large is it? I know El Paso, TX has a huge land area as well most of it uninhabited desert.

From the census...

City                                                    Miles        Rank

Anchorage city, AK                             1,697.2      1
Jacksonville city, FL                            757.7        2
El Paso city, TX                                 249.1         20

No problem...apparently El Paso isn't even the largest (land area) city in Texas.
