Does anyone know what this game is and where it is on the Internet?

I played it before, but I don't remember where it is.

It is a free game available to play on the Internet.  It is the 2008 election and you can choose to be a number of candidates (Obama, McCain, etc).  You can play heads up against one candidate or play against up to 7 candidates.

The strategy is simple.  You and your opponents are situated in different states.  You have to capture each and every state.  You do this by having one of your captured states "attack" one of your opponent's states.  The longer you have held a state, the stronger it is.  The strongest any state can get is an "8".

For example, I have held Kentucky for 6 turns, so it could be rated a "6".  My opponent has captured Tennessee which is rated a "5".  So I send Kentucky "6" to attack Tennessee "5" to try to capture the state.  Most of the time the state with the highest rating will win, but not always.  And when equal states collide, the result is truly random.

You aren't declared a winner until you have captured every state.

If it helps, I first found the link for the game in the comments section in a thread on
fivethirtyeight.com

I hope this wasn't too confusing for anyone, but I just wanted to be as detailed as possible.

Thanks for any help.

There are thousands of comments on 538. Can you break it down, which post you found it under? Can you play it in your web browser?

I know that there are thousands of comments on 538, thats why I asked here and I don't know what thread it was under.

Yes, it is a game that can be played in the browser

The game is somewhat similar to this game
http://www.miniclip.com/games/mccain-vs-obama/en/

except in this game, you capture every individual state, and there are no other characters other than the candidates themselves.  Read my above post for more.

Oh I loved that game!  I can't seem to find it anymore either.  Check around on AddictingGames, that's where I played it.

Actually, it kinda is Smiley

Seems like it could be made into a fairly entertaining forum game, in fact...
