I think it's bad to characterize them all as scum.

Uh, no.  I don't find the demonization of unabashed establishment racists hell bent on protecting their right to enslave other people very offensive at all.

I think the Confederacy should be condemned for its insistence on upholding slavery, but not that it should be treated as pure evil. It's not as if many of the colonial leaders we most glorify weren't firm defenders of slavery themselves. Not even counting men such as Jefferson or Madison (who were lukewarm on slavery), if you claim to admire Washington, Jackson, or Patrick Henry in one breath and then condemn all slaveholders in the other and demonize the Confederacy for such, just be aware that there's a discrepancy that you need to be aware of.

Some common sense usually not found from blue avatars on this issue.

This is true.

I don't mind the demonization of the Confederacy, what I do mind is the revisionist history that all white men from the north were bleedingheard abolitionists who waged war against the South because they gave a damn about the black man.

Offended?  No, not particularly.  I think it's pretty typical of people who can only see black and white, never in shades of grey. (Hmmm...grey...how did THAT work into the discussion?)

But to say I take offense would be pretty stringent.  I certainly am more offended by slavery, racism and disloyalty.

Yes, but I mind far more when people who have no perspective of history spout shallow rhetoric.
