Bush/Cheney of course, but then again I'd vote for them even if they joined one another in gay marriage.

I get the feeling that certain people would vote for Bush even if the challenger was Abraham Lincoln or Jesus Christ.

Opebo probably would, since Jesus cared for the poor and Lincoln was most likely to the left of Bush on economy (and a protectionist, right?).

If those were the options, I would wait to see who won then assassinate both the Pres and VP so they were replaced by someone at least marginally better, although I don't know much about Hastert.....

I never said I did, its just that the right wing whackos claim jesus is always on their side.

I'm not religiously affiliated anyway, so I take the religious right to be a joke.  But sadly, they are far more dangerous than a joke.

I have absolutely no religious convictions whatsoever, and I find this about as offensive as anything I've ever read here.

Why not just round the bastards up and stick them in death camps?

Most of my views are shaped just to oppose the religious right.

If Kerry doesn't beat Bush I will worry about the future of the Democratic Party, because our party has just become anti-Republican, and if that loses in 2004 it will take a while to start back up. I wish the democratic party wasn't so moderate on issues like gun control. I don't care really about Health Care, and that is our party's platform. We should adopt fiscal responsibility as our  new  philosophy, to secure the moderate republicans of the Northeast and the West.

That wasn't what this thread is about.

My comments were made in haste and anger.  I apologize Miami.  This is the intolerance of the Left about which I and Markdel (and apparently Mr. Koch!) complain.  If it had been anyone else, I probably would have concluded, "poor undereducated white trash democrat.  Hmmm.  let's spend some more money on education."  But coming from you--whose posts are generally thoughtful and enlightened--gave me pause.  I am not a bigot.  I don't care whether you're icon is red or green or blue.  Mine is blue because I want people to ask why such a ing bleeding heart liberal is a jackboot-wearing greedy amoral republican.  I want the world to know of my epiphany.  I am like a little child who just learned that the emperor really is naked, my friend.  I am Mayor Koch!  (and I'm apparently a little full of myself tonight.  Or full of something.)

I think what I meant to say was best summarized by voltaire:
"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

okay, enough of that mushy stuff.  Now, I'm off to blast some confused democrats.  Wink

cheers.   (clink)

Definitely Jesus wouldn't vote for Republicans. I think that he would reject all modern political ideologies, but I can see him more social democrat than republican on economy issues at least.

Ha ha. But really, tolerance of the religious right should just mean giving them the same rights as everyone else. No more, no less. They have freedom of speech, and so does everybody else. Yay, we're a happy family.

Huckleberry, I agree. It is my personal opinion that using Jesus for political purposes is pretty sick. The guy has suffered enough, as we've all been reminded, not to have his message co-opted for some political party's short term interests 2,000 years after the fact. Jesus is Jesus is Jesus. You can know his word by reading the Bible. Yes, he probably opposed same-sex marriage, but that doesn't mean he supports the entire Republican platform. He probably think it's very hard for a rich man to get into heaven, but that doesn't mean he supports the Democratic platform either.
