How Bush was more intelligent than Kerry? Kerry may be horrible candidate, but, hell, Bush is idiot.

Bush had both a higher IQ and higher grades than Kerry, Bush's problem was that he was a horrible orator.

I'm thinking 1976. I'd say Ford is probably smarter than Carter.

McGovern is your stereotypical "intellectual." He wasn't so much less intelligent than Nixon, rather his views were so far out there he appeared that way.

With my all respect for Ford, he was hardly an intellectual (not saying non-intelligent).

Carter might be mediocre President (which I still don't agree), but was intelectual.

Carter might have been incomptenent and indecisive, but he was a very smart man.

'28 is the most recent one where the contrast is obvious.

What about '60, '68, and '72?

Humphrey and McGovern both taught university.

Nixon was still more intellectual than them.

No not really.  McGovern was the consummate intellectual - Humphrey was too, but also with a political streak in him.
