Where were your parents born and raised.  And how close did you grow up compared to where they grew up?

For me, both my parents were born and raised in Queens a couple miles from each other (mom Richmond Hill, dad Ozone Park).  They moved out to LI a few years after they were married, and I was born and raised about 25 miles from where they were.

Dad - raised in the village of Oberense until he was 12 years old and the state closed the single-classroom eight years' primary school there (of which his father was the teacher), then in neighboring larger Bremen, where he was also born (hint. Hospital.)

Mom - Born and raised in Frankfurt. Raised in the Gallus, in the part sometimes called "Am Rebstock" by the residents from the age of four. (But more commonly "that prettyish red-brick estate beyond the Hellerhof estate proper" or similar descriptive terms) But in the Gallus even before that.

Mom - Born in Eastern Russia, was raised in Russia and Haifa, Israel.

Wow, I just noticed how clearly the Rebstock and the Hellerhof (where my grandfather was an original tenant at the age of four Grin ) stand apart on google maps.

Dad: Detroit, Michigan until the late 50's, then did what everyone else did and white flighted it to the suburbs (Grosse Pointe, no less Sad).
Mom: Detroit, Michigan, did not white flight until adulthood.

my parents were both born in blacksburg va.  they were raised, as i was, in southwest va.

by the way, bob mcdonnell, asshat of va, says the food tax doesnt bother southwest virginians because they hunt for their food.   how can anyone support that guy?

Dad:  A nice 1950s era suburban development within the city limits of Omaha, Nebraska.. and later in a house in the small town of Plattesmouth to the south, at the mouth of the Platte and Missouri rivers (making it very hilly which can be treacherous in winter).

Mom:  In a typical early 1950s suburban development in central Bloomington, Minnesota.  You'd have a hard time differentiating her family from the Cleavers.  My grandma wore pearls and an apron while vacuuming (white during summer, black during winter).

My dad was raised in the north half of Montgomery County, MD before it became a DC suburb. My mom was raised in the DC suburbs where white people don't live anymore.
