I'm 75% Irish, 12.5% English and 12.5% Polish.  English side came over in mid 1600's.
My polish side came over in 1904- I'm not sure what part but I know it is Central to Western Poland since it was part of Germany at that time.  The town is listed on the Ellis Island record but is impossible to make out.

Anyway, my mom's side is from Ireland (both the Northern and southern parts) and my dad's side is largely Generic WASP.  My paternal ancestors, with the exception of the ones where I got my Y chromosome and last name from, seem to have been in the United States since the early 1800s, if not earlier.  That Y-chromosome-last-name couple, however, is from somewhere I thought was indecipherable:



However, upon looking at it again, it seems that they might be from "H. Cossell"; in other words, Hesse-Kassel.  I wonder whether Herr Trondheim approves of such a location   Of course, it might be entirely possible that the above couple are not related to me at all—particularly because their six-year-old son is named Lewis when he ought to be John or Peter—but the details fit too well with the 1870 family living in an appropriate part of Illinois with an appropriate child appropriately named "Peter" who was born at the appropriate place and time to be the same person as the 1880 "John P." living in the same Illinois county who I know for a fact is my great-great-grandfather.

50% Greek, the rest is a mix of English, Scottish, and Irish I guess. My mothers family has been in the US since the revolutionary days.

I've been doing a little digging and more or less, I'm a mutt... but tracing back family lineages, I'm:

30% Scottish, 15% Irish (though even a good portion of that originated in Scotland), a quarter Norwegian, 20% Swedish, and the other 10% is a mixture of German, English, Welsh, and French.

So, most of my ancestry is Celtic and Scandinavian.. I know little of the Scandinavian heritage because that comes from my mom, who was adopted.  My paternal grandmother was 100% Scottish of the MacLaren clan and my paternal Grandfather was 75% Irish from the McGirrs who originally came from Scotland. (MacAngheearahagehfhbh.. ya know.. typical Gaelic screwery)

English primarily, with some Welsh and Scottish thrown in, with this odd German connection I discovered with the surname of James, that seems so English, so I don't know why a James was supposedly from Oldenberg, Germany, circa around 1770 or so.
