For the first time, I'm thinking that the GOP will take VA and NJ (still less sure about NJ though). That won't be a fun story for Obama but perhaps this was unavoidable.

Take NJ and VA?  It's looking like we'll win them both by double digits

You can't blame this all on Obama, but his and Kaine's falling approvals are all but sealing this one up.

Election night will be more about state legislatures than governors' races, I guess.

I can see GOP winning NJ by 14, but VA will stay about 7 or 8 point margin.

I can see Dems winning NJ by 14, but VA will stay about 7 or 8 point margin.

I presume you mean that you can see "Repubs" winning NJ by 14.

They wont win by that much, it will probably get closer in the end. Two polls say the Dems are only behind by 8 points In both of the states.

I don't doubt that it could get close, but I wouldn't use two Dem-sponsored polls with bad internals to prove the point.

I want both Corzine and Deeds to win, but the above statement is completely mindless.

Something seems strange about the Virginia polling.

Obama won the state 53%-47%.  Yet 52% of PPP's "likely voters" said that they voted for McCain in 2008 (versus 41% for Obama).  Either Obama voters are not likely to show up at the polls in a state election year, likely Virginia voters are now lying about voting for Obama as his popularity in the state plummets, or this particular poll is skewed toward Republicans.   The last is doubtful - SUSA seems to have had a similar breakdown - their likely voters split 52%-43% McCain, too.

I'll check other state polling to see if this is just a Virginia thing.

Edit: The Jersey pollsters didn't ask the question (even PPP).  Nor did Research 2000 in VA for Daily Kos.

Edit 2: The closest thing I could find is a May Survey USA poll on the Minnesota 2010 race.  The poll of REGISTERED voters pretty much mirrored the 2008 result. SUSA's Virginia primary polling of REGISTERED Voters had the Obama/McCain breakdown at 50%-44% Obama on May 20, 49%-44% Obama on June 3, and 48%-45% Obama on June 8.   I've found no breakdown of other state likely voter polls.

This sample is totally different from the one in 2008, idiot. Mcdonell will probably win in the end but it won't be by double digits.

Idiot, it's called a sample of "likely voters." When you have two pollsters showing the same thing, it's bound to mean something.
