You take the box in, and you look at the note on the side. It says,

"If you press the button on the top, you will win $10,000,000 instantly."

But there is one catch:

One random person in the world dies - it could be anybody though it is highly probable to be a person you've never met in your entire life.

You will be responsible for the death of that person, but you aren't going to prison for life or anything like that.

Do you accept?

Yes, but I'd probably kick myself if it were my mom or sister or dad or something.

No. I will not carry the guilt of killing some one indirectly.

Yeah, I wouldn't even have to live with guilt really. If it was killing one person I knew or I knew who I was going to kill I wouldn't do it.

The guilt would drive you insane.  Every damn obituary or family member or friend who dies in your mind will be "THE ONE."

the movie takes place in 1976, so in theory the person killed could be Pol Pot or David Berkowitz or Idi Amin or someone of that nature

Yes. F**k the unlucky soul who dies from the button, chances are pretty high it wouldn't be somebody I knew. And if it is......sh*t!

Some people are amazingly selfish (and have an unhealthy obsession with wealth).  It may be an age thing...but I doubt it.  Probably more of an integrity thing.

I guess. But even putting the morality aside common sense should tell you there's a catch. Or that someone is trying to make a 'point.'

What if the person that would die from this, had a very high chance of dying or a miserable life anyways? That would be at least 1 out of 6 people right there.

Who are you to decide that? Anyone who isn't killing themselves obviously gets something out of staying alive.

No for my part.

You can save hell of a lot of lives with $10,000,000, and i'd stick with the view I had from my teenage years: Once i'm earning over 100k a year, half of the rest goes to the community or charity. So thats $4,950,000, which would be fine with me, if it was a random person. I'd happily 'kill', completely indirectly, someone on the other side of the world for that kind of money to help other people. I'd never do it in person, though, or if there was something like a 1/100 chance of it being someone close to me.

How would you know if someone was directly killed by your action?  People are dying every second of the day.
