There's been discussion on the Canadian federal polling division files thread.

Bah. Dumb idea, status-quo will prevail since nobody really wants to go through the whole stuff changing a name entails.

Though the concern about the 'New' is certainly not stupid.

SDP would be good, if not better than NDP. More fitting and more telling than a name like NDP which can apply to any type of party, from fascist to Trot.

Progressive? No. There can only be one Progressive Party, the rural 1920s Progressives.

Socialist is really pushing it. Social Democratic is probably the limit.
