Well, which one will be, it's bound to happen sooner or later. Brazil would be a nice addition to the table, but is it ready for this? Could India step up to the plate, or will it lose support to do Pakistani opposition, Can Japan take a seat, or will the Chinese outcry be too great? Will Germany grab the seat, despite claims that a third European seat would give too much diplomatic power to to the European Union? Or will some other nation get a seat?

I'm going to have to say Brazil. The only thing riding against them is regional opposition of Mexico and Argentina, both of which can be won over relatively easily. They have the support of everybody on the council except China, but China probably would not veto. It could be a crucial swing player in world politics. It may take a while to step up to the plate, however.

Hopefully none, unless the veto system is fixed (which it should be anyway.) Thanks to the veto system the only thing the UN can pass is "We love bunnies and rainbows!" type resolutions, which is the main reason why it can be so ineffective.

Why not? The world cannot have the same balance of power in 2045 as it did 1945.

Do you think that the nations with power in 1945 will admit it?

Um, I'm pretty sure they have.

Brazil and Germany will join within the next 15 years. India will join within the next 40.

Possibly I could see a merged EU holding onto France's seat while India as the largest component of the old British Empire picks up Britain's.  Other than that, I don't see any change in the veto powers as being likely to happen.

That said the addition of non-veto permanent members is possible, and could happen at any time, much as the non-permanent membership was increased from 6 to 10 in 1966.

The most senseless absence is Germany.

Not all that senseless when you consider how the Security Council was formed.

Israel, Brazil, India and Germany should join, and the Veto System should be abolished.

The most senseless absence is Germany.

I disagree. India and Japan should be there first. However, Japan will never get it because China wont allow them.

Germany, Brazil, South Africa, and Egypt should be there too.
