I appreciate the nomination for Secretary of Agriculture but -- even though I live in Indiana -- I am completely ignorant of the industry.  When I moved here 21 years ago (from Chicago), I made all my new co-workers laugh when I referred to a hog as a pig.  I honestly didn't know there was a difference.

ANd if you don't watch your step you fall in the pig pen and the pigs have you for dinner.  It has happened on more than one occasion. 
Luckily we don't have any hog farms around here.  Just your run of the mill dairy cows roaming the fields chewing grass and generally looking very lazy and adorable.  The family farmer is still king here.  Unfortunately they all must work other jobs as well now to make ends meet.

As agricultural secretary, I would enact policies that promote the family farm and sustain the economic vitality of rural America.  While I would not penalize large corporate farms, I would end the disgusting amounts of subsidies going to them in favor of a smaller subsidy program to family farmers and land conservation programs.

As energy secretary, I would favor an "everything" approach, building new nuclear power stations and greatly expanding wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal power sources.  I would also push to develop clean coal technologies, carbon sequestering, and strengthen efficiency and conservation measures to reduce our global footprint and our reliance on foreign sources of energy.

As head of the EPA, I'd support a common sense approach to climate change that relied heavily on further climate research while trying to make government grants available in the most non-partial way possible.  I would try to de-politicize the climate change issue by elevating scientists at the expense of politicians and welcome skeptical views, so long as they follow sound methodologies in their research. 

As secretary of the interior, I would push to reform public land use with better sustainable management of national forests and grasslands.  While ranchers and farmers would still have access to grasslands for cattle grazing, I would put the health of the grasslands first.  Grazing has always been a major part of grassland sustainability and many native plants depend on frequent grazing and trampling to thrive.  But overgrazing and fire suppression need to be dealt with.

I would also seek to empower Native Americans by pushing for impoverished rural tribes to partner with richer tribes near cities by sharing some of the profits from their casinos.  Also, I would address the issues of alcoholism and diabetes in Native American areas by pushing for better nutrition in schools, educational programs, better access to diabetic supplies, and support for drug/alcohol cessation programs on Indian reservations.
