I am hereby predicting it, this site has seen a barrage of new republican members in recent months. When I first joined this site, it was clearly left-wing. Now, that has appeared to have leveled off, to become moderate on average. I predict that due to republicans being out of power, some republican grassroots will come here. While this site has few true conservatives, we are close to becoming equal in "active users" party membership and libertarians are as commonplace as liberals. I think that we will see more and more conservatives join this site.

Thoughts on my prediction?

It depends.  I can guarantee that if Obama's popularity continues to drop, it will, but that is not an assured thing.

Thing is that most of the new Republicans are trolls.  You think of all these hacks who have no idea on real life and yes I know we have some but almost all of this flow seems to be people with no ideas or horrid ones.

Trust me, we had the same problem when it was coming from the other side.

Though deadman has a point.

Interesting question. The GOP was totally demoralized after the Dem sweep in 2008 (largely deserved I think), but as Obama's numbers drop, along with his acolytes, morale might be increasing, and thus attracting more posters who feel they have material now to work with. I myself haven't seen much useful coming out of my party yet when it comes to public policy issues as now presented (it is more akin to the null set, and being against the pain without dealing with the possible gain), but the last thing left in Pandora's Box after it was opened, was hope.

I don't think we're trending to the right, we're just being barraged by stupid people. (Which, I'm sure, some would argue as being the same thing.)

If this is what it is producing, hope will probably die soon too.

In general, I find this generation's depth of political thought, both on the right and the left, to be incredibly weak.

Quite frankly, if one wanted to make a broader point about society too on this ground, it would be quite astute.

Not really, many Republicans and right-wingers are smart and many on the other side are idiots.  I just think at the moment its clear which side the retards are being supplied by Wink

The problem with all these new Republican posters is most of them are either leftists mocking conservatives or kids who have no business being on this site. There are new Republicans like Hamilton that have promise, but outside of him, I cannot think of any that have struck me as being worthwhile (I apologize if I missed you). I remember the quality of posts from the right being much higher in 2004.

Where this site will actually trend right is up in the air. If Obama continues to slide in the polls, then more people will choose to identity as Republicans. If that doesn't happen, I see us remaining the same.

It'd be actually kind of neat to study the drops or rises of a president's popularity with the thresholds for such a thing to manifest itself on an internet forum such as this one

it'd be neat but no one would care, heh

Keep in mind NiK that ~80% of the new Republican members of the forum were just people recruited from offsite by members of the RPP in Atlasia. Not a political trend as much as it is a few guys taking Fantasyland way too seriously.

But but but, this trend will exactly predict the 2010 election.

I can guarantee that the demographics of this site will soon trend far to the right if you catch my drift.

No thank you, please direct your miscreant friends back to Stormfront.

No, since most of the new Republicans are stupid trolls who were recruited by the magnificent RPP on other forums unrelated to politics.

Surpirsingly, I think that many of the kids on the forum are Republicans such as JC, Thmforu, and myself (although I've been on this site for a year) and some others, but I forget their names. I wonder why many of the younger people on the forum (excluding Benconstine and Xahar) are republicans/independents?

I've wondered that too.

But, I don't think the site is trending rightwards, just towards the GOP

Because if oyu look at some of the New GOPhers you can plainly see that they are moderates, not conservatives.

I'm not ruling out a right-wards trend. I'm ruling out a  socially conservative trend.

As the only Socially conservative Republicans on here are Me, Officepark, and Tmthforu, FloridaRepub, and AZMagic. Oh and Masterjedi

I think this site will become like Einzeige / Mechaman

A leftwards Libertarian site.

Are we just talking about general impressions here, or is there a way to check who is joining or what avatars they are choosing, etc.?
