RESULTS OF ROUND 67

The special rule has resulted in the BIG event of the day:

FDR IS OUT !

Was there not so much support for him ? Was there a mistaken understanding of the dangers of this special rule ? Was there over-confidence from his supporters ?
Was Einstein so important ?
Because he was the guy who has received the biggest total of "eliminate" votes... 3, against 2 for FDR and Cardenas (and 1 for Mandela and PMF).

PiT and Nhoj are at last rewarded for their regular vote for FDR. And my comment on the preceding round was completely mistaken on a stealth majority to protect him.

Here are the biggest vote-getters so far:
Walesa 13.83
Einstein 13.5
Mandela 10
Nagy 8
Cardenas 4.67
Gandhi 2
PMF 1
Attlee 0
Brandt 0
Dubcek 0
MLK 0
Palme 0

Final stage: Roosevelt 2 (2 "positive" votes), Cardenas 1 (2 "positive" votes), Einstein 0 (3 "positive" votes), Mandela -1 (1 "positive" vote), Mendès-France -1 (1 "positive" vote), MLK -1

Great power at its climax !

It's more that a "stealth majority" doesn't really work under this rule.

I forgot to vote, that's what happened Tongue
Seems you would have had a choice only of FDR versus Cardenas, so...

RESULTS OF ROUND 68

Cardenas is ousted quite easily, even if PMF made a last-minute come back (I hope only because some need a name against Cardenas...).

Dubcek has received his first vote. Quite justified: Gorbachev is out; Dubcek isn't very different from him.

Here are the biggest vote-getters so far:
Einstein 14.5
Walesa 13.83
Mandela 10
Nagy 8
PMF 4
Gandhi 3
Dubcek 1
Attlee 0
Brandt 0
MLK 0
Palme 0

Final stage: Cardenas 4, Mendès-France 3, Einstein 1, Dubcek 1, Gandhi 1

Many "musics" about Cardenas and his presidency.

RESULTS OF ROUND 69

Well, it was a bit long to happen, but here we are: Albert is out !
I've voted "for" him, but I'm already a bit sad...

Here are the biggest vote-getters so far:
Walesa 15.83
Mandela 11
Nagy 8
PMF 5
Dubcek 4
Gandhi 3
Attlee 0
Brandt 0
MLK 0
Palme 0

Final stage: Einstein 6, Dubcek 3, Walesa 2, PMF 1, Mandela 1

Obviously, his reaction to his ousting from this game...

I'm pulling for Imre Nagy, though realistically it'll probably be MLK.

Yep, at least, in the first 3 (even if I won't push him).
Willy Brandt will be a hard one to beat, though.

Dubcek 5
Gandhi 4
Attlee 0
Brandt 0
MLK 0

RESULTS OF ROUND 71

Walesa has been threatened for a while but he's accustomed to "resistance" and has made it until this round 71... Not bad, I guess.

The big surprise is that Martin Luther King was close to Walesa. Palme did "well" also.
Are they the most threatened now ?

What was fine in this round is that EVERYBODY has received at least a half-vote, EXCEPT Willy Brandt... whi is now the only one "virgin" history maker !

So a funny round... That's why round 72 brings a lil' surprise: another special rule and the same one as in round 71 !
It will be the last special rule of the "normal" era (before we enter the top 5).

Here are the votes gotten so far:
Mandela 12
Nagy 9.5
Dubcek 6
Gandhi 4.5
Martin Luther King 3
Palme 2.5
Attlee 0.5
Brandt 0

Final stage: Walesa 4, Martin Luther King 3, Palme 2.5, Dubcek 1, Mandela 1, Gandhi 0.5, Nagy 0.5, Attlee 0.5

It smells bad for him now...

RESULTS OF ROUND 72

Would have Tage Erlander done better than Palme ?
I've hesitated to include him in the survivor, but I couldn't avoid Palme and another Swedish long-serving social-democrat prime minister would have been too much.

It seems as if Palme was the least "protected" one: for the others, each of us may have a favourite.

But of course, the big news is that Brandt received his first votes and even pulled ahead of Attlee !
Gandhi and Mandela avoided more votes.
And if King seems to be threatened if we look at the 2 last rounds, the situation is pretty fluid, all the more with some non-regular posters (welcome back to them !).

Here are the votes gotten so far:
Mandela 12
Nagy 10.5
Dubcek 8
Martin Luther King 6.5
Gandhi 4.5
Brandt 1.5
Attlee 1

Final stage: Palme 5.5, Martin Luther King 3.5, Dubcek 2, Brandt 1.5, Nagy 1, Attlee 0.5

Quite cold, eh ?

RESULTS OF ROUND 73

Well, even though it was predictable with the results of previous rounds, this is an overall surprise: MLK is out !
And with a big margin.
Attlee, with his 3 votes, pulls ahead of Brandt again.

During the round 74, we are going to eliminate again one history maker and then, we'll switch to KEEP votes.

Here are the votes gotten so far:
Mandela 13
Nagy 11.5
Dubcek 8
Gandhi 4.5
Attlee 4
Brandt 1.5

Final stage: Matin Luther King 7, Attlee 3, Nagy 1, Mandela 1

Barred.

RESULTS OF ROUND 74

Attlee was a surprising second in the previous round. But, now, he confirms and is ousted before we enter the Top 5, with a new rule.

Gandhi hasn't received votes for a while, now. Is he the new favorite ? Is he only the one that almost nobody hates much: in this case, the new rule will be lethal for him ?
Is Brandt equally threatened ?

Well, it seems to be pretty open, now, and that's a fine thing...

Here are the votes gotten so far:
Mandela 15
Nagy 11.5
Dubcek 9
Gandhi 4.5
Brandt 3.5

Final stage: Attlee 4, Mandela 2, Brandt 2, Dubcek 1

So long, Clement ! He's happy after all: he has a fine lil' chocolate medal...

OK, guys, we are now in our top 5.

Brandt, Dubcek, Gandhi, Mandela, Nagy.

Not a horrible bunch, even if I wouldn't have put any of them in my top 5, of course...

From now, the rule is: vote for the history maker you want to KEEP in the game.

Hence the history maker who receives the smallest total of votes is eliminated.
We will eliminate 3 of them.

Then, we will vote among those 3 to give the "bronze medal" (of course, as the 3 of them will have been ousted by default, we need to vote again in favour of a bronze medal holder).

Then, we will have our great final to give the "silver" and "gold medals".

So, currently, the problem is: will you vote for your survivor ASAP or will you believe you can vote for another one just to eliminate a third ?
It may be very dangerous as any of the 5 may win. It's really very fluid now...
At least, even if many of you aren't happy with the top 5, there is some real suspense I think !

Enjoy it !

RESULTS OF ROUND 75

By voting late for Dubcek, Lewis "killed" Mandela : are you proud of yourself, now ?!?
Grin

It seems as if Gandhi and Nagy are the big boys of the time... But...

Here are the votes gotten so far:
Dubcek 9 negative votes and 1 positive vote
Nagy 11.5 negative votes and 4 positive votes
Brandt 3.5 negative votes and 2 positive votes
Gandhi 4.5 negative votes and 4 positive votes

Final stage: Mandela 1 (15 negative votes in previous rounds), Dubcek 1 (9 negative votes in previous rounds), Brandt 2, Gandhi 4, Nagy 4

Old lion is ousted.

It was a tactical vote - Mandela wasn't my first choice to go out at that stage, but I preferred him to Dubcek.

RESULTS OF ROUND 76

Even if I've counted BRTD's vote, Dubcek would have been eliminated, so no regret here.
And Kalwejt is able to vote for Brandt again in this new round !

And with our few new voters or comeback voters, well, everything is open again, even for the final !
So, it's not at all sure that Nagy and Gandhi have their "seat" guaranteed in the final.

For the moment, Dubcek's "normalization" isn't a surprise, after some bad rounds for him, especially the latest one, with a tie with Mandela.

Here are the votes gotten so far:
Nagy 11.5 negative votes and 8 positive votes
Brandt 3.5 negative votes and 5 positive votes
Gandhi 4.5 negative votes and 7 positive votes

Final stage: Dubcek 1, Brandt 3, Gandhi 3, Nagy 4

"What the hell does he say ? I must really get out of all this mess !"

I hate this forum. None of these fellows I want to keep.

Mine are gone a long time ago:
Gorbachev, John Paul II, TR (yes...), Churchill (yep... don't kill me on the spot), de Gaulle.

Even my second-tier choices:
Eisenhower, Adenauer, Mendès-France, Cassin, Lawrence (yes...), Deng Xiaoping (don't kill me again).

So, well, I think the last 3 aren't so bad.
Of course, Gandhi has his defaults, but he took a great part in keeping India's independence peaceful.
Nagy was a good apparatchik, but he took Hungary out of the Warsaw Pact, even if for few hours, and broke a taboo, fruitful for the future (and he is a real surprise at this stage !).
Brandt remained inside reasonable limits in his Ostpolitik and didn't see who was Guillaume, but he paved the way for a real "détente" and for other and more efficient ways of influence on Osties.

Oh and, Xahar, you'll be ablme, after this round, to vote for the bronze medal.

Mandela and Dubcek will be in again, with the loser of the current round, and both have a chance to grasp this third place.

Ours is one continued struggle against degradation sought to be inflicted upon us by the European, who desire to degrade us to the level of the raw Kaffir, whose occupation is hunting and whose sole ambition is to collect a certain number of cattle to buy a wife with, and then pass his life in indolence and nakedness.

Why, of all places in Johannesburg, the Indian location should be chosen for dumping down all kaffirs of the town, passes my comprehension.

Of course, under my suggestion, the Town Council must withdraw the Kaffirs from the Location. About this mixing of the Kaffirs with the Indians I must confess I feel most strongly. I think it is very unfair to the Indian population, and it is an undue tax on even the proverbial patience of my countrymen.

We believe as much in the purity of race as we think they do, only we believe that they would best serve these interests, which are as dear to us as to them, by advocating the purity of all races, and not one alone. We believe also that the white race of South Africa should be the predominating race.

All Gandhi quotes.

Classy, eh?
