That's screamo, not emo and it's unbelievably horrible.

Well it is closer to emo than The Appleseed Cast currently is.

That is emo in its purest form when it was just beginning. Thank you Guy Piccoto.

Screamo is emo. I'd call it a sub-genre but it's not really since there are different types of "screamo" too. It's most just a stupid word used as a description.

I don't get how respectable-ish bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Mineral devolved into bands like Ampere.

They didn't. Rather both types of bands evolved from the same origins, but in radically different directions. Rites of Spring led to Moss Icon which led to Still Life which led to SDRE. Rites of Spring also led to Merel which led to Heroin which led to Ampere. Two radically different forks in the road. Modern day bands like SDRE and Mineral are still around (Appleseed Cast being one, though they also add some other post-rock influences), and they don't sound anything like Ampere. They just have the same ancestors long ago.

This site explains it pretty well: www.fourfa.com

The rest are incredibly bad. I will refrain from having the same emo argument again with BRTD though.
