Corzine is doing better than he should be with his awful numbers. I think Christie can probably look forward to an awfully difficult term (if he does win).
I've said this before: NJ gives all of its politicians abnormally low approval ratings relative to their "actual" popularity. If Corzine were governor of some other state, he wouldn't be in positive territory, but his approval rating would be something like 44% instead of 37%. Same goes for Christie, who would also have a higher approval elsewhere.
(There are also a handful of states, such as the Dakotas and Montana, that give abnormally high approval ratings.)
Also, on LT Governor candidates, few people know either, but while almost nobody knows anything about Guadagno (85% haven't heard of), Weinberg (65% haven't heard of) is very popular among those who know who she is, earning a break-even rating even from Republicans.
Also interesting is that "honest, trustworthy" is a tie: 30% say Corzine, 31% say Christie. That's a big change from July, when Christie led that by twelve points. Corzine wins experience while Christie wins "understands average person".
