In fact both of you are right.

I respect Ted Kennedy and I mourn his death but the true is, he became Senator because he was Kennedy.

But this doesn't make his accomplishment lesser.

I'd hardly call his life easy. He lost three of his brothers, all at very young ages. That must have been devastating.
