NBC, New York TImes, ABC, all refuse to cover, at least for now. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/The-Van-Jones-non-feeding-non-frenzy-57271402.html

If you don't know about Van Jones by now, I rest my case.

UPDATE: Van Jones resigns. I guess he wasn't the Van Jones that Obama knew.

I just learned about this crazy mofo last night.  Wow.

I was going to do my own thread, but I couldn't get the links to a specific quote to work right from my work computer and then I forgot about it when I got home.

That guy seriously said that.  With a straight face.  He's either super dumb or an ignorant racist.

This guy is seriously bad news, the admin had better dump him quick, before they lose 2010 and 2012 in 2009. No joke.

Van Jones would argue that the title of this thread is racist.

They were sure quick to throw him overboard. Too bad that criminals like Scooter Libby were never thrown overboard.

It was a quick exit indeed, but when so many people view Obama as a Marxist race baiting thug, having a literal Marxist race baiting thug in the administration probably isn't a good idea.

The Truther stuff was just the cherry on top of ridiculousness.

Thank God, though it's pretty naive to think that he suddenly won't be talking to the president and giving him advice.

Every administration has one of these bad apples-- kooks that somehow make it through the vetting process. Resign and move on.

Scooter Libby was a True American Hero, not a racist communist like Jones.
Shame on you for trying to compare a Real American to a Fake American.

True. Obama should have Glenn Beck vet all of his candidates.

UPDATE: Van Jones resigns. I guess he wasn't the Van Jones that Obama knew.

No doubt the President appointed Van Jones for his specialism in that particular brief with which he was charged

It was a quick exit indeed, but when so many people view Obama as a Marxist race baiting thug, having a literal Marxist race baiting thug in the administration probably isn't a good idea.

Is eco-capitalism synonymous with Marxism these days?

It's not like there were never Trotskyists, who morphed into neo-cons

Yeah, except this guy was a self-described communist who was leader of STORM (Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement), which on the night of September 11th held a vigil "mourning the victims of U.S. imperialism around the world", a 9/11 "truther", compared George W. Bush as a "crackhead who licked a crackpipe for a fix" who has said that only suburban white kids are responsible for shooting up schools.

Of course, given his participation in a pragmatic, center-left, post-racial administration, I guess everything is forgiven right?

EDIT: How do you use smilies?

The vetting process here is a scandal. Either it was so incomplete that they didn't have a clue about Van Jones's public activities or they knew about it and decided to go with it anyway.

Perhaps they did have clue when it came to his credentials:

1997-1999 - Rockefeller Foundation "Next Generation Leadership" Fellowship
1998 - Reebok International Human Rights Award
2000 - International Ashoka Fellowship
2008 - Best Dressed Environmental List (#1 of 30); Sustainable Style Foundation
2008 - Time Magazine Environmental Hero
2008 - Elle Magazine Green Award
2008 - One of the George Lucas Foundation's "Daring Dozen"
2008 - Hunt Prime Mover Award
2008 - Campaign for America's Future "Paul Wellstone Award"
2008 - Global Green USA "Community Environmental Leadership" Award
2008 - San Francisco Foundation Community Leadership Award
2008 - Puffin/Nation prize for "Creative Citizenship"
2008 - World Economic Forum "Young Global Leader"
2009 - Hubert H. Humphrey Civil Rights Award
2009 - Eco-Entrepreneur Award, Institute for Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Innovation; Howard University
2009 - Individual Thought Leadership, Energy & Environment Awards; Aspen Institute

I'd say that he seemed right for the job to which he was appointed - Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation on the White House Council for Environmental Quality. Eco-capitalism - the belief that good environmental policy is good economic policy is hardly way out of the mainstream given that it is the environment which sustains 'life on earth' as we know it

God dam a man who's purpose was to advise on a strategy aimed at creating, and sustaining, good well-paid jobs, and a greener environment, for Americans. Nevertheless, Jones had to resign. Past activities and remarks made his position untenable

Well, you've got that right, Blubb, though Obama probably stands somewhere between modern liberalism (the original 'Third Way' Smiley between socialism, on the left, and classical liberalism, on the right) and the "cult of neoliberalism"

The government isn't allowed to discriminate by political views when hiring.

There isn't one guy they could hire that wasn't a racist to do the job?  He was the only man on Earth that could accomplish these tasks?  I find it not suprising at all that the usual suspects don't have a problem with the guy.

Jones represents a classic example of a black racist.  Glad that he is gone.
