At least 44 more moderate Members of the Democrat Caucus have gone on the record in opposition to the current health care bill in the House, Hill source claims. Likewise, at least 57 liberal Members of the Democrat Caucus have gone on the record saying they will vote against a health care bill without a strong public option. In other words, unless multiple Democrats flip on their stated position on health care, Speaker Pelosi lacks the votes to pass a bill through the House on the strength of Democrat votes alone.

This was the compromise. Compromising twice isn't negotiating, it's a give-away.

Not that we seem to have much of a choice, mind you.

does that mean he'll vote against the public option? yes

does that mean he'll vote against any bill with a public option?  no

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIhggEymGHw#t=0m15s

The summer wind came blowin' in
From across the sea
It lingered there to touch your hair
And walk with me

All summer long
we sang a song
And then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts and the summer wind

Like painted kites, those days and nights
They went flying by
The world was new beneath the blue
Umbrella sky

Then softer than a piper man
One day, it called to you
I lost you I lost you to
The summer wind

The autumn wind
And the winter winds
They have come and gone
And still those days
Those lonely days
They go on and on
And guess who’s sigh`s
His lullabies through nights that never end
My fickled friend,
The summer wind
The summer wind warm summer wind
Mmm the summer wind

The public option is the compromise.

Not after the debate became public option vs. no public option

Without the public option though, will the progressives really back out or will they cave?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Even Ben Nelson said he'd be cool voting for a public-option-with-trigger. It's not even so much a compromise as it is a repackaging.

We are satisfied with any bill that makes health care accessible to more people through means of increased affordability and coverage of those who have pre-existing conditions.

Why did you answer that question? He was asking progressives. Wait, are you going to try to convince us you're a progressive? Ahahahahahhaa

Any real progressive would have an incredible problem with a lack of a public option.

I've always been Progressive. My favorite President was the 1912 Progressive Party nominee.

A good chunk of those just seem to be opposed to any bill that could cover abortions. Make it clear that the plan wouldn't cover that would do it.

Well, that could explain Kaptur.  She's pretty liberal on most issues but happens to be very anti-choice.  The President was unequivocal on that point tonight, however.  So that should clear things up.

In a letter, cited by Drudge, to Speaker Pelosi, the following Democratic representatives: Childers (MS-01); Costello (IL-12), Dahlkemper (PA-03), Davis (TN-05), Driehaus (OH-01), Holden (PA-17), Kanjorski (PA-11), Kaptur (OH-09), McIntyre (NC-07), Melancon (LA-03), Murtha (PA-12), Oberstar (MN-08) and Ortiz (TX27) wrote:

“We Cannot Support Any Health Care Reform Proposal Unless It Explicitly Excludes Abortion From The Scope Of Any Government-Defined Or Subsidized Health Insurance Plan.” “We believe in a culture that supports and respects the right to life and is dedicated to the protection and preservation of families. Therefore, we cannot support any health care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan. We believe that a government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan, should not be used to fund abortion.” (Letter To Speaker Pelosi, 6/25/09)

Reps. Stupak (MI-01) and Perriello (VA-05) have also raised concerns
