I thought it was Arnie Carlson.

But Elmer Andersen? I can't believe it! This state went from a lean Kerry to a super solid Kerry with that endorsement.

He means 'Clyde.'

A smarter (not to mention) handsomer version of Clyde appeared in a couple of movies with Clint Eastwood.

Wow, that makes news.  A guy who was governor over 40 years ago endorses the opposite party.  Only in the Red Star Smiley.

I thought it might be Harold E. Stassen, having come back to the land of the living.

After Zell and Koch et al, it's good to see Republicans endorsing Kerry.

MN will be close, but definitely Kerry in Nov.

Too bad St. Paul's current mayor, as opposed to some mummy the Dems dredged up, endorsed Bush... Kelly of course being a Democrat.

The GOP has actually been pretty united this cycle, though the media occasionally spins tales of dissent in the ranks. It would be there, actually, if some idiots in Iowa hadn't nominated Kerry.

Imagine a real candidate against Bush.

Kelly's a DINO. Way pro-business, vetoes all sorts of smoking bans and property tax increases, the DFL leadership HATES him. There's a good chance he'll be recalled since everyone in St. Paul hates his worthless ass too. Even if he doesn't he'll lose in a landslide in 2005, want to bet money on him being reelected? lol.

Kelly is only a mayor and a political unknown to the rest of MN, never much of a player in the DFL.  Funny, how he was running out to meet Bush at the airport when he came here before he openly endorsed him, hmmmm. Well his political career is toast here!  Sucks to be him!

The recall Randy Kelly effort is based on shaky grounds. Just because Mayor Kelly endorsed President Bush and might differ on policy is not grounds to reverse a city wide election.

Exactly. I remember watching Hannity and Colmes once. Susan Estrich was filling in for Alan Colmes. She was so delighted that there would be a recall on the guy just because he supported Bush. She was almost laughing at him during the interview.

I think his political career is over after his term is up, I highly doubt he would be successfully recalled.  He can think what he wants to, but I don't think he has much influence.

He has no chance of winning reelection, I doubt he'll even run again if he survives. He won by only about 400 votes last time. I think this endorsement alone has cost him more than 400 votes.

This is an editorial. The guy wrote it himself. The Star Tribune's bias isn't relevant in this case.
