Do we have an FDIC or was it repealed or something? If the GM could be so kind as to give me a rush job on the condition of its funds and resources, I would be extremely grateful.

The basic premise of the FDIC is there (as far as I can tell), so here is a quick number sketch:

The FDIC's reserves have shrunk nearly 40% so far this year, taking over 81 banks. There are an additional 111 banks currently on the FDIC's "endangered banks" list. The FDIC has access to additional lines of credit from Treasury, in addition to the ability to issue so-called "fiat money."
