'Gentlemen, a desert. A place of savage reference for the good people of Ohio. A place to fear and love. A blasted region. Something to remind us what we hewed out of. A place without malls. An Other for Ohio's Self. Cacti and scorpions and the sun bearing down. Desolation. A place for people to wander alone. To reflect. Away from everything. Gentlemen, a desert.'

I guess the first one's Callaghan and one of the songs is "The Red Flag" on the Oh Tannenbaum melody, but otherwise I have no idea.

1. Harold Wilson (he also represented Ormskirk from 1945-1950). Callaghan was the M.P for Cardiff South (now Alun Michael's seat)
3. Correct. The other song is "Jerusalem"

Most Black Country Tories (now an endangered species) used to be like that.

8. Alan Johnson (M.P for Hull West & Hessle, ex leader of the Communication Workers) is the first ex-Union leader to become a Cabinet Minister since the mid-sixties. Who was that ex-Union leader?
9. What seat did he represent?
10. Which Union did he lead?

Good question Al.  I had to look this up.  Frank Cousins, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Transit and General Workers Union.   Not that bad of guesses on my part though.

Good guesses (researched answer was correct, BTW)
