Senate voted on an amendment to the Transportation Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, proposed by Sen. Wicker, that would require that AMTRAK allow passengers to transport unloaded firearms in checked luggage, in the same manner as currently allowed for airline passengers, reversing a policy change imposed by AMTRAK in 2001. It passed 68-30.

The traitor voted no.

Gillibrand is a disgrace to Hillary's former Senate seat.

I don't keep a record of Gilli's voting, but has she moved to the left or still a moderate hero?

Easy, Gillibrand has started caring more about getting re-elected to her Senate Seat (which has a population more than willing to embrace this subtle act of statism) than standing up for civil liberties. She was much better in the House.

But yeah I totally agree with Bono, she's a TT (Total Traitor).

If she's really thrown away her values, then for the first I call her a HP.

Um, she's representing her state, which likely would agree with her on this vote. Most New Yorkers do not agree with the paranoid gun-huggers.

Well, if NY can't stand  moderates / conservatives, then explain how the hell Al D'Amato won three terms?

It's probably similar to how Frank Church won four terms in Idaho.

Even if that was his reason, I still have mad respect for Church for respecting the individual right to defense. Possibly one of Mech's favorite progressives ever.

Quite disappointing, though I shouldn't be surprised. It's a typical politician move, really.

The 2nd amendment exists just in case the politicians ignore the 1st.

Wait, if I'm understanding this right then if this passes people would have the right to carry guns on a train?  A no sorta makes sense to me....

Traitor to whom? Certainly not her own party. In fact, you could also argue that her vote indicates that she has finally decided to stop acting like a traitor. For me, gun control is an issue of very little importance either way though.

No. The guns would be unloaded and would remain in checked luggage. It's the same as air travel policy.

One three-way race and two of the most unlikeable candidates to ever grace the New York Democratic Party?

The suburbs and upstate used to vote a lot more Republican also.

This is definitely one of the left's sillier positions.  Exactly what threat does an unloaded gun in checked luggage pose to public safety?  I'm all for gun control and regulations meant to keep people from toting loaded assault rifles down the street but I don't understand the need to restrict a gun owner's ability to travel safely with their firearms.

I don't keep a record of Gilli's voting, but has she moved to the left or still a moderate hero?

she's now the 3rd or 4th most liberal senator, totally understandable, given that she represents New York.

Um, she's representing her state, which likely would agree with her on this vote. Most New Yorkers do not agree with the paranoid gun-huggers.

It's probably similar to how Frank Church won four terms in Idaho.

D'Amato had good rapport with his constituents, and the state was a different place politically back then: Upstate cast a larger share of the state's vote and Long Island was much more Republican.
