Stevenson was a liberal for the time. i.e. internationalist, civil rights, extending New Deal type benefits. Stevenson was famous as a witty, pessimistic man, whose speeches are some of history's finest.

He was a traditional New Deal Democrat. But he understood the importnace of a Ballanced Budget. He and Humphrey are my two favorite Democratic Candidates.
