I've pretty much already made a decision, but I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks. These are all options for the next vacation, too!

Meh, you just missed the perfect weather for the San Juan Islands, in my opinion... Smiley

The San Juans are absolutely beautiful, but as bgwah said you just missed the good time of the year. Probably going to be rather rainy and gloomy up there now. Still beautiful though.

I of course would say Minneapolis... but that shouldn't be your big vacation.  Go somewhere more exotic.

Personally, I'd recommend Washington or Lake Tahoe.

If you're big into museums, theater, and fusion food... Minneapolis is a good choice.

Generally though, all of those choices would be good.  Where are you leaning?

J-Mann, you didn't say when you would be going. My choice would depend on the time of year.

My passport just recently expired, and I need a vacation sooner than I can get it renewed. Otherwise, out of the country was certainly an attractive option.

I'll be going the first full week in October.

Reminds me of that joke... not really translatable into English because in German, "pig" as an insult can have sexual connotations or just mean idiot, depending on the context.

- I'm going to Thailand on vacation.
- You pig!
- What the? I'm taking the wife and all.
- You dumb pig!

Either Mackinac Island or Lake Tahoe - I'm biased toward Mackinac (kinda expensive though), but Lake Tahoe is beatiful.

Saying Tahoe is in Nevada isn't really true. But Tahoe is nice, though Yosemite is better.

With the way the fall colors are setting up (later than normal), Mackinac could be absolutely stunning.

Minneapolis might also be nice for fall colors.  I'd suggest taking an excursion into southeastern MN to the Root River Valley... the fall colors among the bluffs are gorgeous.

That way you get big city entertainment as well as natural beauty.  Tahoe would be beautiful.. but I don't know that early October is a very good time to go.  Washington wouldn't be very good either... too much rain.

In any case, you're taking a gamble with the weather.  It could be beautiful and pleasant pretty much anywhere on that list... but I'd still make it a city vacation with a possible excursion to the countryside, weather permitting.
