Friends,

Some of you may have noticed some lack of activity from me lately, particularly those in the Senate or those who watch what goes on there.  I have decided to come clean and be honest with my problems here.  The truth is, I have a drinking problem, and I have finally hit the bottom I needed to hit to kick myself in the ass and do something about it.  I have been sober for two days now, and I plan to stay this way.

I have always had some issues with AA's methodology, but I am going to meeting anyways.  I'm also reading books on alternative philosophies for treating alcohol dependence.

Anyways, just want to let people know whats going on, and maybe get some supportive words of encouragement.  Smiley  Thanks.

The fact that you realized you had a problem is admirable, and I wish you luck on the long road to sobriety.

I wish you a speedy resolution of your drinking problem. Admitting the problem mustn't be easy.

I agree with Sensei... it is a very big step to recognize the problem for what it is.

Everybody has their own way of dealing with drinking problems... I hope you find one that works for you.  AA is probably a good first step though.  Being around people with a similar problem at different points in their path to sobriety is probably the best thing for now.

I wish you the best!

Plus you can always come and bug everyone on the Atlas to fill those times when you are tempted to take a drink.

My family has had intimate experience with dealing with their alcohol problems, so I know how difficult this can be. I think I speak in agreement with this entire forum in wishing you the best.

All the very best Fritz; I'm proud that you were able to admit it to yourself and also know that AA isn't for everyone and know where else to look Smiley

I wish you luck and success Smiley

Good for you Smiley

Despite the fact that alcoholism runs in my family and I don't think I have been sober for more than 2 days in the last few months, I refuse to admit my problem Sad

The biggest problem I'm having with this so far is insomnia.  I don't know how to get to sleep without being loaded.  I toss and turn, eventually I do get to sleep for a few hours, then I wake up and I'm up for the day.  Oh well.......

Remember, that's your system coaxing you to reach for a bottle Tongue Your mind is often way ahead of your body Smiley So ignore it. Try and get some physical rest even if you don't sleep and you'll begin to drift on and off, then eventually get a decent sleep pattern. It may take a while but you'll get there.

I had a Martini each of the last two nights running, and also a little bit of beer (about 2-3 'cans' worth) over the last few nights.  For me that's a huge amount.  I just don't get the appeal.

Enjoy your sobriety, Fritz.  What hobby do you plan to use to replace it?  Rentboys?

Fritz,

Glad to hear you're seeking help.  I hope you'll be able to completely put the habit aside and never look back.

ONE YEAR LATER...

and I am still alcohol free!!!  Woot!  Cheesy

It's been an interesting year to say the least... I've been through home monitoring, treatment, jail, endless meetings, and probation.  I still don't have my driver license back, I'm hoping to get that in October and be "normal" again.
