On a real result, McCain would have won at least most of Eastern Europe, Israel, the Philippines, maybe Australia, some random Pacific islands, possibly some other countries (China being a big potential prize, hard to really know how it would vote)

I don't know where the idea that Australia is a Republican country comes from, but it's really stupid.

McCain's brand of Republicanism, sure. Perfect fit. Palin, not so much.

The big difference is that, unlike pretty much every other developed country but like the United States, Australia is okay with militarism and prudishness. (Indeed, the ALP embodies these at least as much as the US Democratic Party does.)
