I know just about everybody wants a 1972 Scenario for President Forever 2008 + Primaries, including myself, So I'm starting one. If anybody has any suggestions or comments, please post them here.

So Far here are the candidates:

Republicans:
President Richard Nixon
Congressman John Ashbrook

Democratic:
Senator Hubert Humphrey
Senator Edmond Muskie
Governor George Wallace
Senator George McGovern
Senator Terry Sanford
Congresswoman Shirley Chrisholm
Mayor Sam Yorty
Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson
Mayor John Lindsay

You should probably put Pete McCloskey as a Republican candidate. Also, are you gonna be adding in any third party candidates or will the '72 scenario be just Democrats and Republicans?

Add Benjamin Spock for People's Party.

Add Pete McCloskey, Pat Paulsen and Harold Stassen for the Republicans.

Add Wilbur Mills for the Democrats.

McGovern's establishment support should not be so high, the establishment REALLY did not support him at all.

I think - and I might be wrong - that the "How Established Party"  stat refers to the party itself, e.g. the GOP & Democratic party would have a rating of 5, while something like the Reform Party would have a 1 or 2, as opposed to being a refleciton of that candidate's support in said party.

I should have probably left it out.

I was thinking at the initial polls being 52% Republican, and 42% Democratic, so it's not impossible for a Democrati to win, but still hard.

Should add Louis Fisher for the Socialist Labor Party (It was their last election, might as well)

Disagree with HHH's stamina and experience ratings. He had been in government as long as Nixon. Both should be fives.

Nixon's leadership should be a three.

Wallace's charisma should be lower.

McGovern's party establishment should be a 2 and no higher.

My impression from other scenarios is that the '5' rating is almost exclusively reserved for incumbent Presidents.

Fair enough.

You think so? I'm hardly a Wallace fan (!), but he was pretty charismatic in an angry demagogue sorta way.

Again, it refers to how established the Democratic Party is, not his support in it. I don't even know why they have it as a candidate stat tbh.

The Establishment is not so much as support from the party, but the level of organization the runner's campaign. Don't understand why they chose that name. Anyway, I am working on a George Wallace and Hubert Humphrey Reelection bids for P4F+P, on a side-note.

Generally, on track--- but I'd give Muskie a 3 for debating, and Humphrey and McGovern a 4.  Both came from the Midwest forensics circuit...McGovern was the star of his high school and college debate and oratory teams.
