Past French prez elections: President Roger-Gérard SCHWARTZENBERG, 1981-1988

After a chaotic and mixed mandate (during which he even tried to get his former opponent Nicolas Hulot in the government), President Jean-Louis Borloo decided not to run in the 1981 election, due to a quickly deteriorating health, as he is still a heavy drunker.
Some says that he in fact forgot to register his candidacy in time, having not waken up early enough...

He decides to settle in the south-eastern France and to breed biological wines. He also opens a new restaurant in Paris, "Le Président", where he sells his wines.

This lets the centre-right and the right in disarray and divided, over a troubled political inheritance.

The left puts forward its "traditional" leaders of the time, having lost all its imagination during a very dynamic and erratic Borloo mandate, who decided to test 6 new ideas each week...

Here are the candidates in this new election:

Hervé Morin (<-> Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, leader of the centre-right -"liberal, social and European"- party inside the majority, already in power, still young)

François Hollande (<-> François Mitterrand, leader of the PS for a long time, with a "classic" positioning in the mainstream left at the time)

Dominique de Villepin (<-> Jacques Chirac, gaullist and bonapartist leader, no longer in power at the time, betrayed in the past and is ready to betray again, very harsh on the incumbent majority)

Marie-George Buffet (<-> Georges Marchais, nr.1 of the PCF)

Daniel Cohn-Bendit (<-> Brice Lalonde, "new" Green leader, not entirely opposed to the right, at ease in the medias and... not very interested in dressing fine !)

François Sabado (<-> Arlette Laguiller, not very wellknown Trotskyite leader at the time)

Roger-Gérard Schwartzenberg (<-> Michel Crépeau, "classic" RG leader, with good relations with the PS candidate)

Charles Pasqua (<-> Michel Debré, nationalistic leader, former big minister, now sidelined and viewed as a little bit ridiculous)

Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (<-> Marie-France Garaud, more clever and less known nationalistic politician, quite nasty in her/his way of talking in the medias)

Martine Billard (<-> Huguette Bouchardeau, green, "féministe" and leftist at the same time, not very well-known, not really opposed to the mainstream left and.... ugly look !)

I didn't believe it myself, but I'll be able to give DIFFERENT names for every wing in every of these "what-ifs" elections.
I.e. absolutely NO candidate will be candidate again.

Of course, you've seen that one "match" (Renouvin-Allègre) was a bit weird (but, well, not so bad, after all, given the relative... weirdness of both of them).
You've also seen that this "à la 1981" was the weakest. But, in RL, it was great only because of the left's victory in itself. The candidates weren't very good: an old Mitterrand, a nasty Chirac, a stratospheric and monarchic Giscard, an already tired Marchais, etc.

Don't worry, 1988 will include a little surprise.
1995 will be politically interesting.
2002 will be a big fight.
And 2007 will be a funny-crazy futuristic scenario.
