Unneccessary. America will get it anyway. They haven't had the Olympics since all the way back in 1996.

That's more recent than Brazil, Japan, or Spain.  Also, the IOC sometimes factors the Winter Games into their decision.  We hosted them just 7 years ago, and the committee was subsequently accused of bid-rigging (I believe).

I think they could go to Rio.  The games have never been held in South America, and fears of inadequate infrastructure will likely be allayed when Brazil hosts the World Cup in 2014.

Again, NBC. It will pressure the IOC into putting the Olympics here.

Boehner clearly isn't in that camp.

"Listen I think it's a great idea to promote Chicago but he's the president of the United States, not the mayor of Chicago," Boehner said.

What does this even mean? Is there some other city in the U.S. making an Olympic bid that I'm not aware of?

Of course, if Obama didn't go, Boehner would complain that he was the only head of state not to lobby for the Olympic bid, especially if we subsequently lost.

I think the appropriate word for what they do is "bitching".

Doubtful.  No other President has lobbied the Olympic committee on the day of the vote in person.  There would be no reason for Boehner to complain that Obama didn't break tradition.

I'm just happy I'm getting to fund his family's vacations all over the world!

Just like we Minnesotans love funding Tim Pawlenty's charades around the country "for trade relations" which is code for "plugging myself for 2012".

Only 30% of Minnesotans think he should run for president.

But that is neither here nor there.
