I'm surprised how often it is I find allegedly 'conservative' posters and people advocating a closure of our Southern border, if not advancing total deportation for all illegals. And what is the typical reason given? "They compete for our jobs!"

Well, yes. They do. That's the whole point. If you're not willing to undercut your competition, then don't expect to have a job handed to you. Protectionism is a historical failure; in fact, it's probably the number-one cause of war in our entire capitalist era. And it's always been, without fail, the little brother to domestic socialism.

Of course, there's another real reason for this - conservatives are motivated by irrational bigotry. And at the root of this bigotry lies a collectivistic dedication that all the world ought to look just like them; they are socialists-of-the-spirit, etc.

Throw open the borders. Let not prejudice hamper business.

I don't think conservatives are alone in this thinking.

I don't think conservatives are alone in this thinking.

They are the predominant impetus behind what I call demographic protectionism. A leftist who agrees with that stance has one of two motives behind it: either a desire to preserve easy jobs for his constituency, or to co-opt the conservative's artificial populism.

Because it makes me look better in comparison.

Well, all we know is what you don't believe in.  I suggest spending a little less time worrying about making others look bad and a little more time making yourself look good.  Because all you're doing now is making yourself and them look bad.  See Jon Corzine for a prime "real-life" comparison.

Better to know what I don't believe in than not to believe in anything, which you yourself are such a fine example of, sucking whatever tit has the sweetest milk.

Hahaha, I'm still waiting for the proof of that one.  You've said it like 200 times now without any substance whatsoever.  I really am curious as to what it is that makes me so politically vacant.

Because you know that the ideological faction you align with is in the wrong on more issues than they are right, and you continue, time after time, in exhausting effort, to make excuses for why you still cling to the illusion that the Republican Party is a haven for anyone whatsoever with an interest in liberty. And all this because you have no spine to stand up to them.

I know the Democrats aren't - yet. Yet I'm actively pushing for them to become so, on at least a local level, with a reasonable degree of success.

The only "excuse" I've given for being in the Republican Party is that I already am.  Hardly exhausting or clingy.  Last I checked "Republican" wasn't an ideology anyway.  You keep describing these ambiguous figures that bare no resemblance to me.  I'm fighting a similar fight you are, pal, I just don't let it put me at risk for an aneurysm.  It's not worth the effort.  Put your fury into something that matters and don't worry about others' politics, it's a losing battle.

PS - I implore you to check out my post history.  I was arguably the biggest Bush, Huckabee, and Republican critic since before you had even heard of this place.  I've fought tooth and nail with some of the biggest Republicans here.  I'm changing it from within, just like you are.  I want my party to change just like you want your to.  So stop pretending you're the authority and martyr for the causes plenty here have been fighting for long before you have.

The employment problem is not and never has been people coming into the U.S. to take jobs.  The employment problem is that high-paying U.S. jobs are being shipped overseas.

It started with the basic low-level white collar jobs, but it is rapidly extending.  And there's really no way to stop it.  India and China's standard of living will continue to rise at our expense.  It's going to be a painful leveling process.

I think we should close the border and stop immigration but I have also decided to stop identifying with conservates since they favor the rich and big business.

True, but the laws could be changed to penalize offshoring, and temporary work visas that aid the offshoring could be cut.
