you must be enjoying this.

Actually, no.  I'm a fan of having things organized, so I'd rather see the same topic in the same thread rather than dividing it up.  Plus, I'm a fan of records, so I was hoping we'd have some ultra-long thread as our record holder.

Yeah, but I don't think we'll have a prequel trilogy in this case. Wink

I've added this to the original post:

Fourth - Sexually Oriented Content.  We're not going to delete every post with the word "penis" in it.  But if you cross the line of common sense, of what's acceptable and what isn't, then it's going to get deleted.  Ultimately, this is the most subjective rule (the alternative is to ban all sexually oriented topics, which I'm sure isn't the wish of everybody as a whole), so if you have doubts, don't post it, or PM me first.

This was from a couple of years ago, but I'll bite:

Is this a rule Dave asked you to post, or is it one you came up with?

It's from Dave: "You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is ... sexually oriented".

Where's the part about "maliciously" misleading the forum, or whatever nonsense is being used to describe dissent?

Yeah, after four years of being a non-disruptive poster on the forum, never considered a troublemaker, even someone who was liked well enough to be elected Atlasian President, Napoleon should be allowed to stay.

Given Dave's wishes about limiting long threads, shouldn't the "Opinion of Previous Poster's Signature Thread" being retired, and a "Part 2" created?

What is the rule on copyright violations?

Please cite excerpts from other works with a hyperlink and limit those excerpts to at most two smallish paragraphs so that people who want to discuss an article without actually reading it can at least pretend like they did, while also allowing the origin location of the work to receive the ad revenue entitled to them as content creators.

Typically posts that contain copyright policy violations will be edited, without infraction, with the original poster's intent followed to the greatest possible extent. Repeat and habitual offenders will be infracted and such if they're unreasonable about it.

Also citations in proper APA style are encouraged but not required

new rule: don't be weird

someone just painted cat ears onto another person's selfie in an attempt to flirt with them, and posted it publicly in a thread for everyone to see. i had to purge the entire topic with fire so that those who had not already seen it could be spared

It's unfortunate that one awful post has ruined what was otherwise a perfectly good poll, but there was no other choice than to purge everything with fire.

I have found that maps from Leip's Election Atlas can post into another one on historical and cultural topics.

http://www.fourthturning.com/forum/index.php

Elections are not the sole focus of that site. The site is commercial to the extent that it pushes books related to the study... but as a rule, hyping books is much germane to the study is more readily tolerated just about anywhere than are spam ads pushing real estate or "discount v**gra at Rxripoff(dot)com"

Would I violate Leip's copyrights by transferring this to that site?

As a rule strict rule I have transferred only material of my creation.

Here's a blank map (intensity not blanked out) if you want to show the Congressional districts of Maine and Nebraska, but not electoral votes.

Here's one for elections that don't involve individual districts of Maine and Nebraska.

Or Alaska, Hawaii, or DC not voting (elections under the 48-star flag):

Or so that I can be a smart-aleck, the 45-star flag that excludes the States admitted to the Union during the 20th century:

I interpret that to mean quotes of them from other media, etc.  If a banned poster sends you an email or posts on another forum, you can't reproduce what they said here, or they're basically "shadow posting" on the forum.

But quoting old posts of theirs, from before they were banned, I don't read Nym's statement as suggesting that that's forbidden.
