Nah, that's way past me.  Politics will just remain a hobby. Smiley

The local city council maybe, in what ever place I choose to settle down as an adult, but no office higher than that. Atlasian politics is good enough for me Smiley

Yeah, maybe when I'm sick of my real job.  Though I'm a non-starter for sure.  A liberal atheist Republican can get elected in only a select few areas.

Where are those exactly?  I'm trying to find areas where a politically moderate, theologically-liberal-Christian Republican can get elected Smiley

Somewhere in Southern California perhaps?  Or New England pending a reversal of our political suicide there.  I'm sure there's some yuppie paradise that would eat up the chance to vote for the elite Republican progressive.  We can find a place, I'm sure.

There are suburban areas around a number of northern cities. For instance, the northern suburbs of Chicago support these candidates. Look at Mark Kirk, for example. Many officeholders below Congress fit your profile as well.

Well, I suppose it might be fun to try being a petty town hall hack at some point in the distant future, but nothing more than that.

I would be the worst politician in the world. Especially Irish politician.

Could see a future for myself in a civil service type role however. Not "politics" strictly, going by most definitions here.

Only if civilization breaks down and I'm the only one around capable of it, but even then I'd never aspire to be anything more than a benevolent local warlord.

Possibly. Depends on where I'll live and where uni takes me.

I might run for city council or for something in France as a Breton regionalist-federalist candidate.

I don't expect to run for office, and I don't otherwise expect to make a career out of public service in any form.  I'm not liberal enough, nor mindlessly Democratic enough, to get elected where I live now.

But I can certainly envision work in a more behind-the-scenes capacity.

As a teenager I once did. Time is running out, but I still may do something, if the "spirit" moves me forcefully enough. About 15 years ago, I got close, but was off put by the personalities, and was only marginally financially equipped. None of that would  matter now - at least not as much.

What do you mean the "personalities?"  Are you trying to imply that a single person in the public realm, a politician, staffer, media, or interest group could be anything less than genuine, kind, thoughtful, and respectful?  Because, if so, you're a nerd

oh damn, I have such a funny joke, but it's pretty racist.  well, anyway, my initial inclination was just to post an picture of Erkle with the caption "Can't you be both?"  But I'm going to hell for even describing my inclination

Time to wake up.  I'd say any atheist's ceiling in about 95% of districts is 30% and even worse for a Republican.  In short, we're doomed.  We have to either lie about our party or our religion.  I'm thinking party will be easier since I'd personally rather live in an urban area and also rather die than have to go to church regularly.  So watch out for a random moderate Democratic atheist that you have a stinking suspicion is actually a Republican...cause it'll be me.

I would ignore religion.  Even if I ran in Bakersfield Tongue
