Apparently 1/3 of parents won't allow their children to get it.

I would as well. I am 17 years old and I turn 18 on the 23rd. Obviously not ready to be a father, and not sure if I want to be. However, if I am a father one day, I would want my children to be safe. The problem is, because of my age, I can't get the full dosage flu shot until I am 18 anyway. H1N1 has proven to be deadly. I would want my children to be safe.

I'd wait a while. But I'd let 'em get it after a week.

I don't have this choice to make anymore but I would consult with my family doctor first......if s/he said ok, then ok.....You have to trust the doc or go get a new one.

Please specify? What don't you believe in? Vaccines as a whole? If so, Jonas Salk would have something to say about that if he was still alive. If you disagree with this vaccine, then do you feel it isn't strong enough? What?

Getting vaccines for diseases that are nothing more than a few days of inconvenience. I never got any vaccines beyond what was required by law and I turned out fine.

Yes.
My mom filled out forms tonight for me to get a vaccination. We have a confirmed case in our school district, so everyone is in a tizzy.

I would let my kid get the vaccine only after other kids have received it first.  That way, if they get sick, my kid is "safe."  I know I will not get it, just as I do not get the flu shot.

They still don't distribute it in Mexico, so this is not yet an option for us, but in a few weeks it will be. I guess, eventually, the answer is yes. But I wouldn't want to be among the first: they haven't had time for usual testing this year, so there is a small but non-negligible probability of some mishaps showing up in the next few weeks (apparently, they are extra insistent about doctors reporting all sorts of complications - they want to catch it fast if anything happens). Now, given that this is a flu - a tough one, to be sure, but not far outsidethe range of where the flus go - and not, say, smallpox, I'd wait a few weeks. Eventually, though, I guess, yes.

I don't know.  The death rate is tiny, arguably not enough to justify the time + money + side effect potential.  But diseases are exponential (...kind of) and that's nice to reduce.  And is avoiding inconvenience and worry about those around you (to some degree) worth the $12 or whatever it would be (plus a minor risk of side effects)?  Probably.

I'd have to look into it specifically.

I'd give them a choice but certainly allow it. The vaccine seems very safe though, looks like a case of virtually no risk and no loss except about $20 vs. a very small risk. The former is still safer.

Well, every vaccine does have side effects, but I doubt that they justify avoiding this.  Plus, even if the risk of Swine Flu is pretty trivial, does it seriously not justify $12 and five minutes?  $12 and five minutes (even when you add in the minute side effects) is really damn trivial itself.

Chicago area hospitals won't give their staff the nasal spray because it's too dangerous.  They are cool giving it out to children though.  From link

I'd heard that the vaccines in Mexico were going to be available in a few weeks for the military and health professionals, but not available to the general public until December.
