I have no idea why they decided to give Obama the prize, and from Obama's own words he really doesn't either. But hell, who's gonna turn down a Nobel Prize? He'd probably get a ton of flak if he did anyway. I don't see how Obama's actions here will negatively impact him. Still, like I said above, it was definitely a major WTF on behalf of the Nobel Committee. Ah well.

You can't really turn them down. You don't have to go and accept the prize in person. You also don't have to collect the prize money. But you'll still appear in all the lists etc.

WTF?

However, it can't hurt his Presidency. I don't think it will help, either.

Poor choice...bordering WTF.

I think it does nothing for his presidency now, but will probably hurt his presidency in the history books.

How? It's not like it was his decision.

WTF!? ... but average choice. He hasn't really done anything to deserve it yet, though there have been quite a few worse choices over the years - Henry Kissinger (a war-monger), Yasser Arafat (a terrorist), and Mohamed El Baradei (a do-nothing) to name a few.

Obama should give the money to charity.

He accepted it, and if he doesn't live up to the standards of other Nobel Peace prize, I think it'll look somewhat odd when people look back at it (Kissenger, Arafat, etc).

Commendable.....I'd prefer he just return it to the Treasury since it's going to cost more to send  him there and back than the prize money in US $

It is funny.

And it is not Obama's money to give away; should Congress approve this emolument (some of you are familiar with the Constitution I believe) from an organization representing the Storting, then, as it is more than a nominal value, it becomes property of the United States, by statute.
