Voted no, but I guess a "fake" Democrat is better than a "real" one anyways. Tongue

He wouldn't be a Democrat if he lived any further north.

A lot of Democrats are "fake Democrats"

and I think that's a good thing.  Partisanship should not 100% define ideology

No, but ideology should 100% define partisanship.

Well, fine, take this approach: Everyone perceives partisan identities differently, and some people still prefer less modern definitions.  I go to school at Cal/Berkeley, the people coming here for its 60's reputation are obviously not aware that the campus GOP is the biggest school organization on campus (I think that's still true).   But how they choose to identify with it is simply through a different process.  In the South, being a Democrat does not mean being a liberal, it just doesn't.  Hell, a nationalist Republican took away their slaves Tongue

But seriously, I think a less-entrenched partisanship-ideology definition is a positive since it encourages voters to make more evaluated decisions rather than simple partisan ones.

It doesn't make any sense to agree 95% with one party yet identify with the other party because of stuff that happened 140 years ago. Especially if you don't even vote for said party most of the time.

I'd say President is a bit more important office.

So it's the only office that should define partisanship?

At the very least you should support your own party's agenda if they control Congress.

City Council issues that do affect you are pretty non-partisan though. It's not a Republican vs. Democrat issue about putting up a new traffic light on some intersection or that sort of thing.

There are still a lot of places in the U.S. where partisan identification is defined by local office though.  President may be important, but is it what people feel most connected to?  Maybe you.

Pretty much this.

A lot of Democrats are "fake Democrats"

and I think that's a good thing.  Partisanship should not 100% define ideology

I appreciate your devil's advocate approach to Blue Dog types, but I think you're going out a little too far here. I've literally not seen Stamp support any Democratic/Progressive/Liberal/Whatever left wing term you want to use proposal on this site. None, not one. None. None at all. Zero.

He says he voted for Obama, but he employs all these sort of right-wing names for him that just sound retarded. In short, he's a "Democrat" that hasn't said one good thing about Democrats this entire time.

He's less of a Democrat than Chafee was a Republican.

Why should we care  though?
